I DO NOT HAVE MUCH CONTEXT FOR THESE SHIPS BUT BASED ON WHAT I KNOW THEY MAKE ME WANNA WATCH THIS SHOW LIKE 500000 TIMES MORE

 

On a not-unrelated note, I was fucking terrified of Slade. I think part of it was his voice really creeped me out for some reason, but also I think it was my first experience with a villain who would fuck with the heroes on such a personal level.

My memories are weirdly hazy. It was already in reruns by the time I started watching it. But does anyone remember that one really fucked up episode where Robin kept thinking Slade was doing stuff but none of the other Titans knew what he was talking about, and the implication was that Robin was losing it? That terrified me.

(It got resolved somehow that made it less fucked up but I don't remember)

 

There was a hallucinogen in one of the masks that Robin kept around that was contributing to the mindfuckery.

Slade's always been sort of the bar I judge cold villainous characters by; the dude wasn't just calculating, he was fucking brutal and straddled the lines between "casual excessive violence" and "long-term strategic plans" in a way that a lot of villains I've seen don't. He's absolutely horrifying in a super effective way.

i'm assuming no one has any fic recs for horrible slade ships, otherwise they already would have been posted.

 

None from recent times. Ten years ago I would have had an entire portfolio, but I can't actually say how many of them were good.

oh yeah, i saw that the other day when i was looking for that jericho episode. it had slade listed as his dad and i was briefly like "i wonder how hard itd be to find good fic with them"

there's a sad lack of good fic in general, i feel.

 

seriously half my motivation for writing this thing is 'no one else gets this version of jericho and rose right, seriously, we're talking about raised-to-be-just-like-slade kid and her little brother who ran away to be a mountain hippy, also rose is the older sibling guys'

the other half is 'well fine if they cancelled the show before bringing this up then i'll do it, there's no versions of Slade close enough to Titans slade that this'd come up in a plot anyways.'
