Spoiler: 55 They were actually somethign to the effect of "NO don't return to who you were" when he takes Tarn's fucking face off of Megs' chest
Spoiler: 55 he needed a decepticon badge, and tarn just so happened to have one that he wasn't using, after it was ripped off of his face
Spoiler: mtmte 55 I think it was like... so he's tried to make this big point of pacifism, and has been refusing to fight back or anything, as part of how he, personally, is rejecting his old ways. And putting the decepticon symbol (since that's what tarn had for his mask) back over his autobot symbol is like 'FINE. I'll be that person again. This is what you've forced me to do, you wouldn't let me grow or change, so fine. I will be that person you are forcing me to be. Now let's see how you like it.' Kind of like how Bumblebee inspired him to put on the autobot symbol for the first time, but the negative version, where instead of being inspired, he's just worn down and bitter and angry, and admitting that no, he couldn't change after all. (and fuck, I am still so goddamn emotional about his reunion with terminus, oh my god)
Spoiler Took the Decepticon-sigil shaped mask off of him and put it over his autobot symbol before he executed Tarn. This was i think supposed to be like a "nope I'm not killing you as an Autobot. This is me, Megatron, Leader of the Decepticons, Officially Demoting and Executing you in my function as your Lord." Kind of like a way to establish that no this isn't part of him changing factions, he would've done it if he hadn't joined the autobots as well.
Spoiler: Mtmte 55 Alsoooooo I idly shipped Megatron and Terminus before, but now? Aaaaaaaaa, I am in pain over these two! God, I'm going to have to see if I can write something on my phone this weekend, if I have the chance. I don't even know how I want to play it or whose pov to use it anything, but I need, I need SOMETHING, I know that much ;-;
Spoiler: mtmte 55 I love this idea! Tarn is the embodiement of everything he built when he was the leader of the decepticons. It makes a huge amount of sense that he'd want to confront Tarn as the person who created him in the first place. Spock is right though, he did go back to his old ways in order to execute Tarn, but I think that had to happen. It was as if he were acknowledging that even as Decepticon warleader Megatron, his actions to create/nurture/allow Tarn and the DJD to run rampant over his army were wrong and needed to be corrected.
Spoiler: MTMTE 55 Okay, but, it's canon the miners got really shitty health care and Terminus was dying because of a treatable condition. One dude spent 200 years earning his way to a drill, and then died. What I'm saying is, what if Old Man Miner is like... a few thousand years old, subjective experience wise? What if he's actually the youngest character experience-wise except for Tailgate? Megatron is certainly older than him now. What if he just seemed so old because miners were cheap as dirt and the government burned through them?
totally unrelated but if you guys haven't been reading Galena's This Might Be Valhalla, you should. consider doing that. because it's gr8. honestly all galena's stuff is gr8, but this is just. the warmest fuzzies. whirl.
Spoiler: Mtmte 55 Yes!!! Yes to this so much! I've been running around on mobile, so I haven't had a chance to type it up yet, but I have SO MANY FEELINGS about Terminus being an old man... for a miner. Terminus who's used to being the oldest bot around, but only because he's in a group where everyone is mistreated so badly and working in such dangerous conditions that NONE of them live to the Cybertronian equivalent of old age! Process Man is one of my FAVORITE pseudo/semi-traditional songs, and it's like that, not without the miners taking these jobs voluntarily! Even among a group of bots who are used to wartime mortality rates, and seeing MTOs being born and dying by the thousands, even THEN being significantly younger than everyone (except Tailgate and Ten) Terminus, who's experienced less societal mobility than every bot left alive!! Even Tailgate only had two weeks of being pigeonholed before he was free to do what he wanted, and even THEN, Tailgate at least had run of Cybertron! Even Ten has gone from being a sub-person to being a mistreated/neglected semi-person to getting to be friends with at least two of the highest-status bots on the ship and having Grotusque paint flowers all over him! (ps it JUST hit me that Ten made it out alive, and I am SO RELIEVED) Terminus who might not have known the war, but who ONLY knew strict functionism and council oppression, where this new world is stranger to him than it is to the shell-shocked soldiers who are still only just realizing they can finally stop fighting! I WANT ALL OF IT!!!!
It's suuuuuuuper worthwhile if you can find the time for it! It starts off a bit slow and kids-show-ish, but by the time you hit Along Came A Spider, things get AWESOME! (And I do know coldstars read it and loved it without having watched tfa, but there are some awesome character things it's nice to have the show backstory for)
Yeah, I've made it to Along Came A Spider, but then I got sidetracked with other stuff. Time to double down again! It's also really weird to go from IDW G1 'outliers are rare and barely understood' to TFA 'look everyone is basically an outlier, we've all got weird shit we can do nobody really planned for, lmao'. Spoiler Although it makes me wonder if anyone has ever harvested outlier powers in the comics continuity the same way Lockdown harvested unique trophies from his victims. The old Senate, certainly, the Institute, perhaps?
I've got a question for you all, why does the Maccadam tag on tumblr exist? Why not just use 'transformers' as the catchall.
Spoiler: MTMTE 55 Like, Megatron took Trailcutter's hands, but that's not quite as disrespectful as harvesting implies, imo. They knew each other, they respected each other, and Trailcutter was a really good guy who just wanted to help people, and frankly I don't think he'd mind Megatron using his forcefield generator to save his friends. But there's got to be people who deliberately targeted outliers and harvested their... anomalous organs, I guess? And it's stated you can't just use outlier organs to do outlier things if you're not the outlier who was forged with them, but how do people know that? Because people have tried, presumably. Because people have tried enough that it can be said with certainty that the power barrier is the problem, not just a problem with how things were harvested from the few people they tried it with. Because it was more than a few people.
It got overwhelmed by bayverse junk! I heard that part of it was also that some blogs, when posting about actors, fill the tags with big-name movies the actors have been in, so that was also clogging the transformers tag up. So the maccadam tag is supposed to a new, less-cluttered home for the fandom to live. I don't know if it's as much of an issue these days, but that's the explanation I've gotten!
Because "Transformers" is too broad, being a normal English word that applies to a lot of things other than chunky plastic that changes shape and marketing schemes for said plastic.
Spoiler: MTMTE 28, 55 So that's going to be an awkward conversation with ur buddy, Megatron. Not as awkward as the whole 'you know how I was anti-violence? Well...'
