you can't expect ray to keep track of all of the entities with which he identifies so deeply as to declare himself kin with them. that's unreasonable.
Spoiler: tfa I enjoyed it a lot! It's definitely a kids cartoon, way more than TFP, but there's still some really good stuff in there. One, Sari. At first she's very much the annoying kid sidekick, and she retains that role to some extent, but she does get legit development and also the hybrid thing is super cool. I think wider fandom kind of ignores her the way the human kids get frequently ignored in TFP just because the giant robots are cooler. But also there's some weird stuff with her aging up from like, eight-year-old to teenager in the blink of an eye, and I don't think tumblr discourse knows what to do with that. There's a lot that changes from the usual default transformers setting, which was jarring at first, but really interesting. Optimus Prime isn't the leader of the Autobots anymore, he's a relatively inexperienced military officer, who's been disgraced and given a shitty assignment as punishment. The war has been over for a long time, and Ratchet is one of the few characters who was even around when it went down, and everyone has thought the Decepticons were defeated for ages and ages. There's some neat fresh stuff. And there's also some subtle but really, really interesting under the table dystopian stuff happening in the setting. Autobot high command is ineffectual at best, corrupt at worst, and there's a lot of ugly stuff going on in their military structure. It's kind of ambiguous as to whether the Decepticons were justified in their rebellon and maybe Megatron would have been a better leader after all. Plus there's some deliciously sketchy moral stuff going on with like, how Omega Supreme was made, or that he was just one in a line of other similarly manufactured robots, he's just the only one who made it through the war alive. There was supposed to be a fourth season, with the Autobots having a really extra doubly shitty leader in charge, something something revolution. I don't know the details, unfortunately. I think the Bayverse movies coming out cut this canon short, but the creators and the fans are really sad that the fourth season never happened. I have the giant-ass art/history book for this series, actually, and there is a LOT of really interesting worldbuilding that never got to feature on the screen.
Spoiler Yeah, that was my impression. And I'm sad Sari gets ignored in the wider fandom because it sounds like there's a lot of interesting things going on there that could be played with, like - does she only look more humanoid because she identifies as a human? Her transformer form is tiny compared to other transformers - could that ever change? On the other hand, she's no pushover, and her size could actually work as an advantage when she really comes into her own - she's harder to keep track of.

God, watching Last Stand of the Wreckers, and I am impressed with how the artist managed to make robot gore look uncomfortable and visceral to me, a human. Like, of course it's uncomfortable because of what it's depicting. But it manages to echo enough organic stuff to be visceral.
Like, this is the perfect example. Spoiler: LSotW EYE GORE Like, it uses both the liquid energon and the red glass to invoke blood imagery. Brilliant!
