...they committed massive genocide because Megatron was worried about 'what ifs', turned POWs into living bombs, and had the DJD.
I haven't seen much other than one most and another friend that follows a lot more blogs than me in the fandom asking people to please stay civil to each other and not to name call. The one post I did see (and blocked) was someone referring to themselves as a 'minority' 'con fan. Hopefully it doesn't become a big fighty thing in the fandom.
Oh, good lord. Really? Hopefully this is just stress from current events manifesting in some very black and white thinking and shouty tendencies.
I don't super understand the 'my villain fav did nothing wrong' yelling, like. Part of my personal fun in villain faves is getting to revel in the atrocities because they're fictional. No one's actually getting hurt when I get super excited about my fav murdering indiscriminately. That's the point of it
I think there are also people that focus on what - at least in TFP and IDW - Megatron's ideals and ideas started as and you know not what acutely happened in the long protracted war. So the Autobots are always the 'Evil Government' and the 'Cons are always the underdog freedom fighters fighting injustice - and you know not everything that happened after. And let's face it there are probably people out there right now that think the whole assassinating the senate thing Screamer did is the BEST idea and all that - ie doing bad things because your cause is righteous is okay - is the best way to go and don't want to actually pay attention to what the writers in IDW show happens when any side is willing to do any thing because their cause is 'righteous'. So yeah I understand it kinda but it's still not shit I want to see on my dash or have become a huge fandom issue. Good debate about the bot/con civil war sure! But good/bad thinking and name calling nope.
I need to stop talking about what I'm going to write next, because it 100% of the time means I'm going to come unstuck on something else. But here, have a snippet about Chromedome accidentally kicking Prowl in the junk.
It is!! And I'm so excited about this because it means I get to lampshade the HELL out of fandom names for robot junk, plus make vore and unbirthing jokes, and it's all going to be so so so fun.
Aaaaaah Verity and Prowl bonding!!! Could you fiddle at something where Verity finds out Ultra Magnus is smol? Sorry if that seems pushing, just seeing if the idea interests you.
I can definitely do that! I don't have anything lined up in my immediate plans, but I definitely want to write something with those two sometime soon
I just ran across this in the maccadam tag: http://theatricalassassin.tumblr.com/post/153233106668/minority-transformers-fan-voice-me-i-identify What do you guys think, do they have a point or is this a little too far off the deep end? it's true that there's a mandate from Hasbro that the decepticons need to be the bad guys (the comic has the most leeway). but I'm not sure specifically which two continuities they are talking about. IDW portrayed an awful, 4 million year war where an entire corner of the galaxy was gutted to support the efforts of both sides. for all that Megatron is basically lucifer until suddenly he's not, the comics have at least made some effortsort to humanize the decepticons.
Well in IDW, the autobots were technically formed in response TO the decepticons, the decepticons were formed in response to the functionist government. Autobots just weren't so big on the 'violent, bloody revolution' thing. And... I'm not sure on my sources, but didn't a lot of autobots favor reform, just peaceful reform instead of a 'let's assassinate the whole senate' approach? I know we see flashbacks of a few characters being like 'this megatron guy makes some great points', plus there's the whole heist where they're working against the government and technically protecting decepticons. Plus the bit where OP and company were actively defending the last natural hot spot FROM the government, and OP was chill enough with Megatron to invite him to join them. I see what that post is trying to say, but the comic really balances that the two sides both had good points and both did bad shit. I mean, I love Soundwave, but he specifically carried out anti-neutral pogroms, and that is the exact word they used. We see with Prowl and Aequitas and such that autobots have done plenty of nasty things too, but there's a reason Rewind was able to make a supercut of the war that turned Tailgate so hard against the decepticons. When the canon does such a good job of balancing things, I'm going to have a major NOPE reaction to anyone trying to black-and-white it up.
It's also simplifying a nuanced issue to the point where the OP can dismiss anyone who disagrees with them, which is frustrating.
On top of the blatant disregard for canon, they also refer to people as Autobots for disagreeing with them. :T Further down they talk as though they are Gaster from Undertale, and how it is 'painful' for them to see negative stuff about that character in people's AUs because "they're so wrong!!! I'm not actually like that at all :'(" (Because no one is allowed to have differing interpretations of those characters, after all, all that matters is you) Like. Good grief. I keep getting Ray vibes, except this OP says they're autistic and we all know Ray's feelings about that. It seems like exactly Ray's level of nuance in discourse, though
honestly i read maybe the first two lines before my brain stalled out and went 'lol tldr.' like yes there is absolutely a discussion to be had re: the way that the writers have treated decepticon actions vs autobot actions despite overall attempts to fix the black and white morality of the g1 universe, and yes there's nothing wrong with or even unusual about identifying with the 'bad guys' when those bad guys have been given sympathetic motivations, but friend. friendo. pal. buddy. please get down off of that soapbox and stop lecturing the poor strawman
The thing that frustrates me the most is that we don't have to look hard for real world comparisons to the Decepticon spiral into darknees. The USSR continues to be a thing that existed and Megatron continues to be a character that draws a lot from Stalin in interpretation.
