Yeah, so it turns out that this kind of obsessive re-re-re-read is the only kind of hyperfocus I can apparently manage these days (see: the reason I haven't managed to put down mtmte revolution for half a week), and I really enjoy absorbing trivia (I am a gelatinous trivia mass) and I also love wiki binging and synthesizing factlets. It sure is a combo :B So basically I'm going to be going back over this series with... not with a fine-toothed comb, just with a complete inability to focus on literally anything else. And every time spock hurts itself in its confusion, I absolutely plan to share the pain. If anyone has any characters they want to hurt extra over, let me know and I may be able to do something about it. I was just trying to lock down characterizations for Crankcase and his boyfriend, and instead I tripped over Misfire and Krok and broke my nose. (Was it this thread that discussed how weird it was that their history only goes back less than 20 million years when dying of old age doesn't seem to be a thing and that amount of time could theoretically be only one dead generation away anyway?) Anyway I think, given functionism, the decorative purpose was a happy coincidence.

Ah, boo, you're right. I was thrown off by Helex's weird tiny arms, they exit his body at a STRANGE angle. I thought that had to be some kind of alt mode anatomy, but nope. Tiny extra arms that stick out straight ahead from his waist. And Tesarus's forearms are that color that doesn't show up anywhere else on him, so I didn't even parse that as being part of him at first :< Booooooo I am irritated at this tease, those panels are cropped JUST right to make it hard to tell that these bots are in root mode. Helex's chin sits pretty close to his chest, it is pretty much immediately off the top edge of the panel. Tesarus's head is barely cropped out too, but they only showed the top of his far shoulder and even managed to cut out 95% of his near arm, which really takes some doing. Mannnnn, it would have been awesome to see what these other guys turned into, but we just get a couple Kaons and a tiny bit of Vos. They tease me with these intriguing functions and exciting tire treads, these two bots have some of the most unique, exciting kibble, and they don't show me what happens? BOOOOOOOO. (though now I'm wondering what's up with that tank tread sticking out of Tesarus's butt. I read it too fast, as I do, and parsed that as being shoulder treads acting as alt mode treads and showing he was on the go. But it doesn't actually line up with the top or bottom edge of the treads we do see. His only other treads are built into his shins. I can't tell what that part of the picture is, but Alex Milne generally knows what he's doing. Hm.)
All I can guess is that the treads are to dispose of the stuff that he's ground up inside him. I think at some point we see (pieces of) someone coming out of his back and being conveyed away by the treads. Other than that i have no idea.
Just popping in to remind people that Swerve, despite being out of practice as a metallurgist and being dumped into an emergency situation with zero warning, managed to develop a cure for cybercrosis, which has been universally incurable and fatal for upwards of six million years, and was something even Dominus Ambus wasn't able to fix even while he was questing for that cure specifically. And this also happens just after Swerve has found out that Tailgate, one of the people he's closest to, probably one of the few people he feels he can realistically call a friend, has been keeping his impending death a secret from him. And then despite being responsible for this ground-breaking, revolutionary advance in medicine, it doesn't take Swerve long at all to slide into crippling depression, isolating himself, actively hiding how badly he's doing, and letting his health slip further and further until he comes this close to death by self-neglect.

I finally managed to finish a thing! Not any of the things I was trying to work on, of course, but I still have 2000 words of tailgate and cyclonus and tailgate. And not in a cute and sexy way, unfortunately Maybe I'll have to fix that in the future. But for now, I have a new one-shot compilation document to roll around in!
