[shakes nervously] if you like MegaStar and/or StarFire(Skyfire/Jetfire x Starscream) here you go [sweats profusely] Spoiler: I mean this just came to mind (MAYBE nsfw?????) I was listening to a Crywank album for the 100th time, and then when this song came on, I thought of Jetfire and Starscream. So like, it takes place after Starscream finds Jet frozen in ice. With Starscream working for Megatron, he eventually becomes a masochist. But he begins hanging around Jet for a while. So you can get a good idea of where it's headed... Basically, I HC Jetfire being really sensitive and not wanting to hurt Starscream, but Star's like 'pls' Send me to the brig, I'm ready.
Mildly on-topic, I love Crywank's music so much (he's also super nice, have spoken to him on twitter a few times), and I find... a lot of his songs work really well for parings, especially slightly uh, unhealthier parings, for lack of a better word.
I HAVE ACQUIRED THE GOOD SON by which I mean Titans Return Soundwave and accompanying headmaster "Soundblaster" (because that doesn't sound like a G1 ship name at all...) Spoiler: LORGE PICTURES FOR THE LORGE PICTURE BOY He. Does not balance well on his feets. Also ft. my cat's tail because she wanted to sleep on the transformation instructions. His chest opens!! Which is v important for protecting cassettes. Only one fits in him at a time, but that's Laserbeak there. Because this is the Titans Return version, he's also decapitatable. Insert Dirk meme of choice here. His head becomes Soundblaster. Tiny, tiny Soundblaster. Soundwave is actually six minibots in a trenchcoat txt it Classic boombox alt, of course And... for some reason the Titans Return bots become tripleformers with "city" modes? That only headmaster are small enough to use? And can apparently link up with each other? (There are apparently Blaster and Ultra Magnus headmaster figs... somewhere, according to the back of the box.) Overcompensation what overcompensation Soundblaster has a perfectly normal-sized massive cannon array
He was $42 at Target, idk if that would vary regionally but I know Ivy found a similar price online if that's an option for you! I saw him last month and told myself if I still wanted him next time I went to the store I could get him, and... Well :P I still Regret not picking up Ravage the one time I saw him tho, I haven't found him again :T
EBay is where I got my soundwave, because toys r us sold out of him like right away, but I had a mighty need. I also got a couple of other toys from there, blind box stuff where I know too many statistics to surrender and play their blind box games. The labeling isn't always the best, and there are some CRAZY expensive models mixed in with the others, but they had a lot of variety.
Okay, I am just now catching up to TAAO and Optimus Prime, but for fuck's sake Would they stop! taking off! Optimus's faceplate!!!!!! eta: Spoiler oh thank goodness, weird al bot isn't dead and oh my god, that body language on arcee. oh sweet jesus, ow double eta: my heart is full of starscream and PAIN. god.
@Loq I found got a Platinum Edition Autobots Intel Ops (the one that normally ranges to be around $100+) on sale for $10 at dirt cheap!!! :00 It's in great condition too! I think the reason it was so cheap was because they had so many.
Spoiler: taao I just want to say that I am ridiculously pleased that I have been writing Starscream with sleep issues, and I'd like the writers to come along and confirm food issues for him now pls (it's never going to happen, because I doubt they want to touch that hornet's nest, but... I will cherish this headcanon with all my heart) And also I'd been feeling a little self-conscious over the way I write him in general, and seeing all that flat, cornered unhappiness (drifting towards misery at times) makes me really, really delighted. I mean that issue did cruel things to my emotions, but I am also very pleased right now and might actually stop procrastinating on this fic (which has been jossed significantly less than I expected! I just have to not procrastinate for another month again)
Guys, imagine Transformers and Pirates. like legitimate pirates, the pillaging ones, meeting some robots I'm just listening to pirate-y music, sorry, my bad lmao
so, not sure if it's appropriate to ask here: but i've been confused for a long time on where you would even approach transformers from, it just seems to have so many different continuities? where would you even start from sidenote: i dont have much experience, but shockwave, soundwave and whirl seem cool. my 'types' i guess
Well, MTMTE is set at a soft transition point in the current comics franchise where current plots got wrapped up and new plots got started in all the comics. It's basically space road trip plus crying and mental health issues. Transformers Animated is one of the former cartoon continuities, geared towards older kids and teens and with really solid writing and characterization. It's also designed to be a stand-alone continuity. It's a really unique look at a lot of transformers stuff. For example, Optimus Prime isn't the leader of the autobots, but the leader of a small crew of spacegate engineers that get stranded on Earth with an ancient and powerful artifact they've got to try to protect from the decepticons that also got stranded on earth, and without a lot of power or punch on Cybertron itself. Transformers Prime is the more recent cartoon, aimed at teenagers and young adults I would say, it's outwardly darker than TFA. In this continuity the war has been going on for so long that Cybertron itself is a ruined wreck of a planet and the Autobots are outnumbered and outgunned by the decepticons, so it's also got a very underdog feel to it. Transformers: Robots in Disguise is the latest and current cartoon, and it's a sequel to TFP but is designed to be something you can jump onto without having watched TFP. Once Cybertron is rebuilt and most of the Decepticons are under lock, things seem peaceful, but when a prison ship crashes on Earth and Bumblebee gets visions from robo-god that HE'S the one who has to try to round up everyone, he goes rogue from his space cop job on Cybertron and sets up shop on Earth with his young and enthusiastic cadet, Strongarm, and a robot 'teen' delinquent they were in the process of arresting, Sideswipe. Goofier than TFP. Good characterization. Art style is kind of a weird hybrid between TFP and TFA.
Spoiler: TAAO 9 This boy...has stained glass windows of himself in the courtroom....THIS BOY WHO I LOVE... 8( Please get some sleep, Starscream...
OH HELLO THERE IT'S MY FAVORITE QUESTION OuO (quick sidebar: shockwave does... strange things in the idw comics, soundwave is a major character in the exrid ongoing series, and whirl is a major character in the mtmte ongoing series) My personal recommendation is for the mtmte comic series! There are an overwhelming number of options, but I think that MTMTE is the highest-quality one, period. It runs parallel to another, more complicated, ongoing series, exRiD (and also both series got a recent rename and they added another ongoing, because it wasn't confusing enough), but it stands pretty well independently. Wait, actually, that's not STRICTLY true. I recommend starting with a miniseries that stands pretty well on its own, and uses mostly minor characters. It's a good taste of the writing for the main series, and it gives context to some of the early plot points. It's Last Stand Of The Wreckers, and it's about redshirts and propaganda, and it's GLORIOUS. Now, MTMTE. There are a lot of characters, but I came into this with zero transformers knowledge besides 'hurr hurr there's a guy named rodimus', and I did fine! But I also made two rough robot spotting guides (x) (x) for the early mtmte characters. MTMTE 1-7 MTMTE 2012 annual (it's out of order for some reason on viewcomic, which is super annoying) MTMTE 8-22 (this skips a confusing crossover event that makes no sense unless you've read the other ongoing, exrid) MTMTE 28-55 And if you need something lighthearted and silly after issue 55, MTMTE Revolution (technically part of a crossover event, but it's hilarious and meta and wonderful) I shotgunned 47 issues (all that was out) in... two days, I think? And then I went back and read everything else, which gets way more complicated, but this is a pretty linear piece of QUALITY storytelling.
@spockandawe Oh gosh thank you! This is such a cool and informative response, with convenient helpful and informative links and everything. Also... like, re: shockwave... strange good, strange bad or strange inconsistent writing?
Strange good, imo. His actions are not consistent with someone who has no emotions, and part of that is bc the 'beep boop logical character' tropes in popular media aren't generally p logical. But his actions are consistent with someone who thinks he has no emotions, and cannot connect with the emotions he has, and cannot notice when they are impacting him, and who has had his emotions stomped down fairly flat and gone through such a horrible violation of his mind that his primary emotions are patience and anger... I love IDW Shockwave. EDIT: Now that I think about it there's definitely some similarities with Flowey, haha, except Flowey is a lot more impulsive.
My secret is that I already have the thorough reading list and the fun reading list compiled and remember how to search for them on here, because whenever anyone expresses the slightest interest in robots, I will infodump like WHOA XD And also strange good for Shockwave! All the stuff Petra says is on the money, but like... he isn't as much a main player as Soundwave and Whirl are in their series. He tends to lurk here and there in the phase one comics, doing strange science things. And all that culminates in that complicated crossover event that I skipped over in my reading list :P He's at the center of that, but it's really hard to follow along with Dark Cybertron unless you know what's up in MTMTE and exRiD, and to understand what's happening in exRiD, it's hard to get away with just reading phase two, because it builds a lot on the events in phase one. MTMTE stands on its own better. And in Dark Cybertron, multiple writers and multiple artists had their hands in the mix, so the results are... sometimes VERY good, and sometimes very not good. It's a mixed bag, and I do have affection for it, but it was the most complicated part of phase two for me to follow along with.
@Petra Do you think you can entice me by comparing him to my favourite character? ....Well you're right, you can, you just made me love him a lot more even though I haven't read his material yet. What you've said about him makes him sound like an absolutely tantalizing character thanks. @spockandawe I'm like super bad at following universes with a lot of spin offs/variations so wish me luck, because I'm not even sure what phase one or phase two even means. I'm glad the Shockwave stuff is strange good too, that's reassuring and cool to hear.
hello it is i, the learker. i'm not really hardcore into TFs but i like enough of it that i've made ocs. i just made a new one, who i'm planning on adding to rp with, but here is my new filth son. His name is Hivebite, and he's an insecticon. Hit alt(?) is an ant, but it's a specific type of ant!! Myrmecia analis in specific, but it falls under the Myrmecia family of super aggressive, venomous ants. Hivebite is 30 feet tall, and can lift many times his own weight, akin to an ant. However - he isn't very bulky, and is rather skinny. He sees @ShockCollar as his queen, and is thus very protective over him. Even though Shock is basically equal rank as Hivebite, he puts Shock up on a pedestal of being perfect. Essentially, he thinks Shock is Hot Shit and has a massive crush on him, in the buggy-est way possible. He's very protective, and he gets excited easily - he's very over the top with shows of emotion. I.E. he'd capture a bunch of fugitives and give them as gifts if Shock showed interest in capturing them. Note that he bounces when excited or stressed, and that his mandibles work essentially as a face plate and come down to protect the lower portion of his head when in battle. He has wings, but can only fly when in alt-mode. He's a decepticon, but he is more loyal towards Shock than the main cause. Spoiler: imgs Spoiler: with shade Spoiler: without shade blame @Sleepy_Stiingray for this this is all his fault he drug me into this hell
