I would like to offer for your consideration.... the idea of chronic people pleaser Chromedome, who is really bad at 'no', meeting one mister Rewind, on the search for his missing husband. And Rewind who was born and lived for a long time as an unperson, and spent his life actively bucking the social conventions that put him in that unperson spot. Rewind who is looking for Dominus Ambus, and loves Dominus Ambus, but has also been alone for a long time and is spending all his time hanging out with this really sweet, really nice guy, who is helping him with this stuff and Chromedome is just the BEST and he's seriously so great and--

Rewind who realizes he's in love with Dominus Ambus, but he's also definitely in love with Chromedome. Rewind who has a relatively easy time compared to some mechs of saying 'you can only love one person? fuck THAT' and deciding he can love both of them at once. Chromedome who's' gradually getting turned around into a spot where this is kind of a (very very undefined) poly relationship, where he's... effectively in a relationship with Rewind, except from where he's standing, it basically looks like Rewind and his husband, then... Rewind and the Other Guy, with a very definite hierarchy. Chromedome who continues to be very bad at boundaries and saying no and tends to take harm onto himself if other people ask it of him.

Either Chromedome reaching a snapping point where he can't take it anymore and is enough of a mess that Rewind has to actually talk this out instead of just doing the thing where people can carve out whatever social space they want for their happiness without having to have tough conversations, or Rewind who has to reel it in and realize that fuck, he's hurting Chromedome and something needs to shift in here because he's making a person he loves miserable. Probably with some side helpings of Chromedome shutting down in weird, indirect ways that don't actually lead to confrontation about the actual issue, so they have fights about things that aren't the real problem.

(or lots of other angles to cover both of their feelings about the relationship elephant in the room) I have a fic idea that comes at a liiiiittle of this, basically the big define the relationship thing where they have to find that delicate balance, but man, the idea of covering the slow burn of the whole relationship evolution is kind of fascinating, and definitely not something I'm actually suited to writing :P

Anyways, while I'm busy living in a hotel chewing off my own limbs in a desperate bid to escape boredom, I'm hoping to make more progress on some fics. This one has been planned from the start of this verse, and has been known exclusively as 'wheeljack's worst sleepover ever' until about five minutes ago, when I finally picked a title.

Just!! Look! At Misfire being pretty sure he's about to die and still up to the last moment doing everything he can to express that he's THERE for grimlock, no matter what!!! These low-level mooks have been wandering around with one of the most dangerous fighters in the whole war, who could have wrecked their shit without any problem before he got fucked up, and who could have accidentally killed them pretty easily even after the brain damage. And just!! All of them, but especially!! Misfire!!!!!!!

And I love that they haven't been total saints about it, their intentions were pretty mercenary at first, and Misfire has gotten frustrated with Grimlock like when he emptied his tanks on the floor, and some of them maybe sorta voted to sell him for $$$$$. But he's also been working hard with Grimlock trying to help him recover, and he's been largely patient and friendly and NICE, and he didn't have any reason for any of that except that he's a good boy with a good heart who's trying his best! With or without brain damage, Grimlock is one of the more dangerous people the Scavengers could have decided to pick up, but now they're at THIS point of trust, and so much of it is down to Misfire being a good, compassionate boy!

I'm just. I'm going to scream. I love Misfire so much, he tries so hard and deserves every good thing and I love him.

(additionally, he got described in one of the cast pages as adhd, and thinking about someone with adhd sitting with a slow, slow learner, making painfully slow progress, but still sticking with the lessons and trying to help them, that moves me on a personal level) (he put in so much time with grimlock that grimlock was able to work his way up from nonverbal to short sentences and he's reaching out on a personal level too, talking about grimlock's old friends and making a real effort to understand what grimlock tries to communicate, and just look at all that kindness and outreach repaid here!)

Plus also, I love watching the Scavengers interacting with Grimlock compared to how they interact with Nickel. He's plenty important, and nominally on the enemy side of the factional divide. She's a decepticon, she's been part of the DJD and has commanded a warworld, and she's bossy and take-charge and low-key exudes an aura of 'listen to me, i'm important.' But the scavengers are like 'haha yep okay anyways check it out this is grimlock and he's our buddy'

And one more thing. After how... angry Grimlock was, and how barely-controlled the dinobots were as an element of the autobot army, and how much he just did whatever he wanted and brushed people aside if they got in his way, look at him teasing Misfire! Just a tiny bit, just for a moment, but here's this low-level Decepticon mook, and this exchange isn't just civil, it's grimlock reaching out on a personal level I don't think we ever see outside the dinobots and the scavengers. Grimlock had his team, but he wasn't a very friendly guy, and here he is teasing the decepticon mook who spent years trying to help get him back on his feet ;-;
