Oooh, I'm excited! I'm only buying the issues when they're priced $1.99 so I haven't gotten to read issues 7 and 8 yet. I don't mind the talking about the past bc even though this is a pre-war setup there's still a lot of context that informs the decisions characters are making.

Spoiler: IDW2 issue 7 I strongly support that this continuity is keeping Cyclonus as a traumatized war vet with personal communication issues. Can't wait to see the new Arcee's characterization! I also love how many women are in the plot right from the start. I was worried Lug and Anode wouldn't come back for another round, but if they're using characters like Nautica I don't think I need to worry. And plenty of new faces, too! Spoiler: Idw2 issue 7 Not sure if Provoke and Highfire count as 'new faces' given their posthumous nature, but I appreciate that half of Cyclonus' dead friend crew are women, including the one who seems to be barking orders?

OKAY. First I was being pulled in a million directions and then I was recovering from travel-based exhaustion, but! I'm back from tfcon and had an AMAZING time and I didn't sit in on as many panels as I usually like to, but I caught a few gems along the way. And even remembered to write them down this time! (and one interesting tidbit that I could have guessed but that got confirmed explicitly is that the original 80s cartoon/comic creators did try to get more women into the series, or tried to work in more depth for the few women already there, and were shut down hard. Even if things aren't anywhere close to equal representation or equal nostalgic weight, I'm so pleased we've come as far as we have in the time since then. Ron Friedman said he wrote more scenes for the 1986 movie that fleshed out a father/daughter-type relationship between Arcee and Optimus, but they were cut, and Bob Budiansky said he tried to create more female characters and was told to stop, because this was a toy franchise for boys. And now here we are with Nautica and Victorion and suchlike :') Progress!!) But then I couldn't stop thinking about those inks, and honestly, I blame my own overinvestment in my starbladejack, etc., universes for letting this picture get its hooks into my heart, but I started fretting about oh no, what if I go back and this picture is GONE-- And that's when I realized that I badly, badly wanted it. I heard that Ratchet was originally supposed to be a woman but that got shut down because 'boys don't want to read about women!' and thus Ratchet is a dude. Which is infuriating but interesting?
Comixology is having a big sale on stuff from the previous IDW continuity for 'Optimus Prime' Day! It's for digital volumes of stuff, not individual issues, but I was able to pick up a copy of the entire Wreckers saga for $5, so pretty nice deal. I think it's for today only so, er, hurry I guess?

I was also in the panel with Ron Friedman and remember him saying the words "Starscream's bar mitzvah" can confirm. I got my hair cut by Rhinox's (voice actor's) daughter! I got a really tasty drink named after Scorponok! I went to a hotel room with friends and opened a bunch of transformers and played around with them for several hours and chatted and told people about how great Megs/Mags/Rod/Drift was as a ship! A+ trip, 11/10, would definitely go again, it was great and I had such a good time.

tfcon toronto was super fun and the scorponok was DELICIOUS, spock tried everything but i refused to order anything else. Bring Me Another Scorponok Jack Lawrence was SUCH A PEACH.... HE WAS SO SWEET AND SO WAS MILNE... he showed me pictures of his dogs, one of whom was named Mooncake......
The Scorponok was so good! I also tried the Tigatron, but it was nowhere near as delicious, and got another Scorponok.
