Huh, a thought. Maybe a neural network would (eventually) do better with rhymes if you gave it a phonetic transcription of the training set? It probably isn’t going to be able to figure out that repetition of sounds is important if it doesn’t actually have information about sounds.

Seems like a huge bother though, especially as I suspect most people who think that pin and pen sound different would still probably not find any issue with rhyming fin and glen and been and sin and again, especially in something like a jingle. (I’m speaking of U.S. English since it’s what I’m familiar with.) I have a creeping fear that this may be the tip of the iceberg of what people might think is a rhyme even if they wouldn’t necessarily agree about it actually being the same sound.

So I dunno, a fairly standard phonetic rendering might still end up lacking crucial information about how closely different sounds are related. That information is not preserved if similar sounds are rendered as distinct characters. Which was exactly the problem to begin with.

It still wouldn’t necessarily be an issue if your training set contained no or very few examples of this. You’d just maybe get an AI with a really inflexible idea about rhyming. But hahaha like you’d be that lucky.

It's a set of relations between different ideas as picked up from a few different sites, like wikitionary, and sometimes they're pretty funny. For instance, things that a horse is made of: horsemeat, horseback.

I want to test another joke on you guys.

I like roleplay. I tell that to guys when they ask about my hobbies, because that's like three of my biggest hobbies, between dnd, larping, and vampire forums. The problem is, when I say "I like roleplay," most guys hear one thing, when I mean something completely different. I told this one guy I was dating to come over for some role play one night, not really thinking about it. He showed up wearing a maid outfit and cat ears. I showed up with dice and a wizard hat. It was an awkward first session of dnd.

 

You put on your robe and wizard hat and he rolled a critical fail.
