the voice actors on this show gave about the same amount of fucks as the people who did Ghost Stories, and it’s just delightful

I used to be confused about bad dubs of certain shows. Only now does it occur to me that they may have been giving the material more or less the level of effort it called for.

 

yugioh GX is actually really good, there’s just... certain worldbuilding elements that you have to actively cram into your suspension of disbelief first. once you accept that a magical card game has become one of the most influential forces in the world, it’s an amazing show about a mildly sociopathic kid learning not to take his friends for granted which has a great time deconstructing shonen MC tropes! you just have to accept the card game first, and boy is there a lot of it to accept.
