I have a pretty thick cloud cover this evening so I don't think I'll be able to do anything. Though I guess I didn't have the specifics of the spell planned anyway, so.

eta: although I'm not doing anything until like, at least 11pm. I want to, y'know, eat, gather my ritual stuff....

 

My dillemma is that most of the rituals I'm being drawn to right now involve burning things and it's very cold out right now. I did put all new pages in my journal last night though.

I got my earthbound Oracle deck in the mail today and I’m expecting the wild unknown and the raven’s prophecy tarot decks to come tomorrow. After shuffling the deck about 1/2 an hour I decided to do an interview spread, and I’m a little worried about the answers it gave me...

Spoiler: Long?

Tell me about yourself. What is your most important characteristic?
It gave me the deceit card. I feel like somebody else here got that as their answer once too? I hope that means it will protect me from deceit.

What are your strengths as a deck?
It gave me the wealth card inverted. Not sure how that’s a strength, unless it’s warning me to spend less money. I don’t think I spend much money in the first place?

What are your limits as a deck?
It gave me the air card inverted. Air relates to knowledge, action, power and change. Not sure what this means.

What are you here to teach me?
It gave me the reflect card inverted. I do spend a lot of time inside my own head, thinking about how conversations would go instead of actually talking to people and things like that. Maybe it will help me think less and do more, but the last card seems like the opposite?

How can I best learn and collaborate with you?
It gave me the terra card inverted. I’m guessing that’s earth? Earth is grounded, stable, supportive and fertile. Is it telling me to look out for myself more, to stop being so supportive?

What is the potential outcome of our working relationship?
It gave me the message card. Hmm...

Not sure how I feel about this spread, and some of the cards seem to contradict each other. What do you guys think?

 

....the first things that come to mind for me:

Spoiler: ended up spoilering for length

- earth might mean it’s telling you the best way to learn from it/work with it is to be as grounded and stable as you can be/work towards being grounded and stable. it might also be telling you to expect realistic answers from it...
- ....which I think in part because air and earth are often viewed as elemental opposites, and it gave you the air card.
- admittedly I don’t know what the inversion of a card in an oracle deck is, but my best guess would be that the deck is trying to say it’s not good at handling significant change/upheaval, and possibly that it’s not good at being optimistic or thinking creatively with its answers—so to best understand it and work with it, be grounded in reality when dealing with it, and know that its answers might be prone to overlooking unexpected outcomes/ideas, and possibly don’t ask it questions that relate to big changes.
- the wealth card part....I mean, I could see that as the deck trying to tell you that one of its strengths is being reserved—“not greedy”. it isn’t likely to make you expect anything overly optimistic or ‘wealthy’ as an outcome, if that makes sense? it’s a conservative estimator.
- but I could also interpret that in some bad ways. like that its strength is being “poor” with things—which I have seen used to basically describe pettiness. so I’m not sure about that one. I can see a few interpretations. I just have no idea which is right, and some of them are interpretations that would make me a tad wary of the deck.

that’s all I’ve got for thoughts, though.

 

I feel like I rushed the interview, and I purified the cards overnight. I did the interview again, and it’s definitely more coherent. I should have let the deck rest/recharge overnight and now I feel bad.

 

That can happen, and I find that a lot of decks have a bit of a breaking in period as they get to know you as well. My robin wood tarot does very well for me now but the first month or so after I got it was Rough.

My wild unknown and raven’s prophecy tarot decks have arrived! I was not expecting boxes that large. I’m glad they come with guidebooks, because I’m a little overwhelmed. I think the tarot decks will stay at home, and I’ll just carry the oracle deck around with me. The wild unknown deck is hard to shuffle, the raven’s prophecy deck is slightly easier to shuffle, and the earthbound oracle is the easiest. The tarot decks are really slippery, but it probably doesn’t help that my hands are tiny. Are tarot decks always this slippery?

 

@Wormwitch The tarot decks I've gotten are glossy and thus kind of slippery, but for me the bigger problem is (as you mentioned) tiny hands. I usually only shuffle half of my deck at a time because the decks are too big for my tiny hands to shuffle the whole thing at once @.@

 

When I have trouble shuffling my cards well I like to sort them out into random smaller piles. Normally at least six. Then stack them back together. Repeat if desired.

2 of cups, so he’s bad with romance. Same here buddy.

The emperor reversed. Lack of father figure/instability? Learning how to live on my own maybe? Since I currently share an apartment with my dad, and I do worry what I’ll do when he’s gone.

How can I best learn and collaborate with you?
9 of wands...strength/stamina/confidence. That would be helpful.

What is the potential outcome of our working relationship?
Son of swords...Forceful/determined.

This deck seems like a quiet and no nonsense older brother type. Or maybe a stern father figure type? Not sure yet.

6 of coins...generosity/charity.

King of wands...inspiration/leadership.

2 of wands...planning/goals. That’s going to be tough, with my terrible executive function and all. Know I know why I felt like this deck doesn’t like me.

What is the potential outcome of our working relationship?
The star reversed...lack of self esteem/lack of hope.

Yeah this deck feels like an older sister, someone I’ll never be as good as. Who, just by being her normal ‘has her shit together’ self, makes me feel awful.
