Yeah, the, uh, furry subsection makes me feel v uncomfortable. And is why I have never checked the tumblr tag. (Okay, that was mostly because Ididn't want to see if there were any cultural appropration arguments.)

They also found a Mary Sue in the Harry Potter fandom that, uh, was possessed by Sekhmet. Or was somehow her human incarnation? I really disliked that fic, it was AWFUL.

The way their relationship with the gods is much more personal than anything else I've ever seen does feel kinda weird, but then again, you get tags like that from this:

I am not sure how I would feel about porn of my gods. At least with Guanyin there is an awkward feeling of "yes i want this" but mostly just shameful NO THIS IS BAD DO NOT DO THIS. With the Gaelic ones it is more like...Well. I mean. They have sex? That is just a thing they do? Sometimes that sex is even very important like with the Dagda and the Morrígan's tryst that gave him sovereignty over Ireland. I can say that porn of Lugh would make me go OH GOD NO PLEASE GET IT AWAY FROM ME. The same way one might react to seeing a sex video of their father. That is my weird father figure type god person no. He does it. BUT I WANT TO NOT BE INVOLVED WITH IT AT ALL HOWEVER TANGENTIALLY. Just feels of DAD NO.

Also gods sassing you is just. A thing. It's certainly a thing that pops up in Gaelpol and you'll see people going omg why. Also just teasing, joking, and general trolling.

 

That being said, one of the definitely good things we got from Tumblr Kemetics was Stick-Gods.

To be fair, that tag is extremely relatable to me over here in my Gaelic corner.

A grand tradition is when I don't ask specific enough questions they tell me "You are performing divination :D". Also like I am big into Manannán so honestly sass is just what you will deal with. And pranks and teasing and poking and so on. He's Manannán I mean come on.

So we grabbed a book at random (turned out to be Bleak House, incidentally), posed a test question of 'what is for dinner', flipped through the pages, stabbed at a phrase...

And got 'your mother'.

Cue gales of laughter and a feeling of Being Sassed.

Spoiler: generic whining

It'd be nice if I could find a god/branch of spiritual stuff that keeps being important in my head for longer than it takes the novelty to wear off, or that i could feel a REAL GENUINE SUPER OBVIOUS CONNECTION TO. But then I've been so fucking tired and shitty recently and preoccupied with moving that I suppose it's no wonder stuff has fallen by the wayside. Also I'm in a new place, and Exeter is, well, urban, and urban places are much more difficult for me to connect with, apparently...

 

As I understand it, the Kemetic fandom is a thing somewhat separate, although overlapping with, Kemetic religious stuff? I have a Kemetic friend or two, and it seems to be that not everyone is equally, hm, lighthearted about things. There's a lot of historical examples of satire and jokes at the gods' expense, and I've heard said Kemetic friend outright compare the newest/most recent documented mythology as outright 'fanfiction' of the older stuff. So...

I figure, if the gods were unhappy about the treatment, they'd make that known. It ain't my place to tell somebody else how to worship their own gods. Or the same god as me! Me and them probably have different relationships with said god! etc.
