On the one hand this is the cutest god damn thing I have ever fucking seen and I feel like I'm going to die from sucrose overload
On the other hand they'll have known each other for about nine months at this point and that kinda squicks me out when people get engaged after very short periods of dating.
Thoughts?

Also nine months no longer seem short because my in-laws married each other after less than a month and were blissfully married for decades before the old man died of cancer so IDEK

 

I have a couple friends who got engaged about four months after they started dating. They had known each other and been good friends for years beforehand, but it still kind of freaks me out when people do that.

ETA: I guess the thing that squicks me so hard about the comic is that they go from zero to engaged in less than a year. I won't even start dating someone until I've known them for at least six months.

 

Yeah, it definitely seems like one of those "mileage may vary" things though, like, I would encourage people outside of fiction to really get to know the person they're about hitch themselves to. Just because it works out sometimes doesn't make it a guarantee. .__.

 

If they were real people, I would definitely be "Whoooa there, I know you're head-over-heels for each other, but maybe wait a little longer to make sure this relationship still works in absence of the mutual drive to win Yuuri the gold?"

I've known rush-to-engage couples IRL that worked out for the long run, although I think more often than not they don't. But since Yuuri and Victor are fictional, I can headcanon that they just happen to be one of the times a quickly-engaged couple works out. :)

(Actually, I'd headcanon that after the shiny newness of the relationship fades, they have some troubles, and there is period of very intense Difficulty and fear of broken hearts, but then they buckle down and get to work overcome the troubles. But YMMV. =P)

How long it takes to be really serious varies by the person and the relationship -u- Some people really know what they want, some people need some time to be certain, some relationships develop more quickly than others. As far as I can tell, there are people who know theirselves and what they want from life well enough to know if something will really work out quickly, and people who can't do that. Like Quicksilver said, I'd be more worried about the situation they've been in up until now than the relatively short time period. Let's see how you handle a little bit of normal life together first, how about? Do you fit together just as well when there's really been nothing to do for three months? Have some added stressors been influencing your decisions? Where is my Victor backstory episode I swear to God

Wait, that last one didn't have anything to do with the rest, did it. Oh wait it did because as far as canon has shown Yuuri has learned next to nothing about Victor's life before this incredibly impulsive choice he made to travel halfway across the globe to tutor someone he had only met in passing before because he thought he recognized his own feelings in a candid fucking video of the other guy, fancy that??? Or else we, the audience, are just not being told about any of this personal history??? What has or hasn't Victor shared about his personal life with Yuuri??? I'm not thirsty as hell. What the fuck
