The Grouch's Trash Pile [Baldur's Gate 3]

Been playing Jai, got approached by a very polite and friendly RP venue organizer asking if they could pay me to vacate my apartment so they could buy it to make it a part of their venue (apparently their FC owns most of the apartments in the building). I wasn't really tied to Lav Beds and Jai's apartment was still only half decorated so I said sure. Got reimbursed for the apartment + 1.5mil gil, managed to find the last free Mist apartment on Mateus and promptly bought it. Whew. It's a shame it's 1:30 am, because I'd LOVE to dive into decorating it.

I probably could have asked for more but eh, it wasn't too much trouble for me to move, and they were super nice about it -- I got the impression they fully expected me to turn them down completely. This gives me the excuse I'd been looking for to completely redo the layout, too -- what I had going before was limiting me but I was resisting redoing it from scratch. Now I have no choice! :D

 

I spent basically the entire day and a fair chunk of that extra gil decorating Jai's new apartment--

I made it as Thavnairian as I could without actual Thavnairian furnishings (SE, Thav furnishings when???). The bit of the back I didn't get a picture of (because it's really hard to take pictures of such a small space) is just a very basic tiny bathroom with a carbuncle bathtub.

Ward 20 subdivision, room #37 on Mateus, if anyone on Crystal gets the urge to take a look.

 

I GREATLY object to it being 29 C outside.

Despite it being slightly cooler today it's more humid and I'm struggling worse -- despite a steady supply of cold drinks I've felt worse and worse, and finally struggled through the mental haze to wet down my shirt and noticed my face is all red. I now have a wet shirt, an icepack on my head, and a wet handkerchief over that.

 

I was writing a post that was meant to be a couple of funny paragraphs about getting distracted and ended up writing a whole short essay about missing a place. At least I finally updated that dumb blog I'm paying for?

 

Winnest? Win for writing, witnessed for the missing of places/thing/times past.

 

I know why writers are advised to look for and read books that are similar to what they want to write, and I agree with why, but if I have to do anything smelling of market research for my books I will simply die.

 

It's not that I think I'm 'too good' to do market research or knowing the field, but that my soul shrivels up at even the hint of attempts to make myself more marketable or palatable. But then, I'm not under the impression I'm inventing any wheels over here, either.

 

Also I'm really cross with myself that I've been hard stuck on making myself complete an assignment for the course I'm doing and have made no progress at all for weeks, and when I finally shoved myself into doing it just now it was SUPER FUCKING EASY. What the hell!!!

I think there's a combination of factors -- this course has SO MANY VIDEOS I have to sit through, but because videos are the opposite of helpful when I'm learning I have to just let them play at 2x speed and then read the transcript and that's super tedious, the marketing-speak is making my brain scream FAKE!!!!!!!!! and try to climb out of my head because it makes me feel like a cornered animal, and this all feels incredibly pointless. Learning to design the interfaces for apps and websites to sell people shit? Pointless. Writing stories? Not pointless.

GRUMBLE GRUMP GROUCH.

 

Like one of the things that really grates on me as fake is that this course really stresses accessibility, which is great... but it constantly stresses accessibility like it's something other people have, not you, the student. For all the video instructors are diverse, the course itself very much feels like it assumes a Generic Able-Bodied White Guy as a student. And it's IRRITATING AS SHIT.

 

I'm working, I'm just mad about it lol

 

On a happier note, I can consistently walk 5km without needing a break (other than a pause or two to retrieve my water bottle and take a drink), which is a distinct improvement from last year despite having spent the winter way less active than usual. Here's hoping I can fix the boot that was giving me trouble and that we don't end up with a three-inch thick crust of lumpy ice most of next winter. Even with ice cleats that's a really dangerous walking condition for me; it's not just the slipperiness, it's the uneven footing.

Graded assignments of this course are peer reviewed, and students are expected to edit their work based on comments recieved. The two comments I recieved on my latest assignment were

reduce the sentence and make meaningful words. Too descriptive.

That's. That's not implied in the definition?? Explaining every possible tiny nuance of a word in the top-level definition isn't even what dictionaries are for!

Man, I am not going to get along with marketing types. From the current video:

Sometimes I wonder how much of marketing psychology is just bullshit the field has convinced itself is true, and how much is it not applying well to annoyed autistics such as myself.

 

i mean...the intro to economics that was part of mandatory high school i experienced very clearly had stuff that was ABSOLUTELY "we think this way so everyone must think this way so it MUST be true" circular thinking shit so prolly half this and half the other thing to be honest

and thats not even touching the "sex sells" fallacy that also gets thrown around a lot

 

Been leveling MCH lately and getting a surprising amount of commendations, so I figure it must be my glam.
