i'm here for this ALSO i have this game now and cannot play it on my computer, so I gotta steal the boyfriend's computer. any advice for me?
Mess around, go at whatever pace is enjoyable for you. There isn't really any time limit so you can take it easy. It's also good not to look too much stuff up ahead of time - a lot of the fun is in discovery, and you can't really mess anything up permanently. Oh, and if you try out fishing, start out at the lake by the mines and do short casts - anywhere else is an exercise in frustration when you're just starting out.
Beach combing for shells and other stuff is an easy way to supplement your income when you start out! Also yes, fishing is just...awful. There is a Better/Easier Fishing mod out there to make it more accessible, but mine broke with the update; I'm not sure if anyone's coming up with a replacement version 8( You can get loads of pretty mods for aesthetic/gameplay because the game's pretty easy to mod but, uh, /coughs/ yeah, some of the more cheatsy ones are probably broken as heck right now. For example, I modded the greenhouse to be larger and now, there's. There's a lot of clipping. Crops are growing through the floor and the decorative bushes. Whoops...
I got that portrait mod here! (You may have to register for the forums to see it) I think I'll edit it, though, so Maru is darker skinned again and Shane has some of that sweet sweet blushing. As for editing graphics for the game, it's actually really easy as long as you have an image editing program, even something like paint! Here's the process: Get the Easy XNB Pack/UnPack Toolkit Find the .xnb you want to edit and follow the directions in the above post to unpack Open the .png you want to edit in the graphics program of your choice, go to town! Save your work, close, go back into the Toolkit folder and hit PACK FILES.BAT Drag the newly repacked .xnb to the location you took the original from BAM, DONE CUUUUUUTE.
Also here's the fishing mod I've been using and I haven't had any problems yet: Easier Fishing (Standalone) (1.1) 1.1a
@Ruevian where did you get that awesome braided hairstyle? I'm cobbling together a hairstyle package and my nb fairy needs ALL the cute long hairstyles.
Right here! I edited the files heavily, though, so I could have the same bangs. And flowers in the braid a la Rapunzel.
Ah, cool! That was the one I was looking at, but I wasn't sure if it was the same one. (Now I just need to mash together some hat mods, and redesign the farm buildings, and I'll be set! :'D) How'd you edit in flowers without them being recolored? Does that sprite map only read the grayscale bits as the parts to apply color to?
Unfortunately not. It reads the whole thing, so what I did was color the hair the shade I wanted for my character, so when I crank the color in game all the way to white, it shows up how I wanted.
The marriage between Shane and my half-dryad is going remarkably well. Certainly the marriage experience is far better than it was when I was playing at launch and married Harvey, and I'm glad I let the game sit until this patch rather than burning myself out. Caithe is at ten hearts with Emily too, and all of her events were adorable, and so far I haven't had any jealousy issues. So I hc that Shane understands and supports his pansexual woodland being of a wife in her relationship with the sweetest jewel of the valley, more and more so as their own relationship goes on and the fact that it's Happening and she loves him how he is sinks in x3 I'm tempted to write fic and do art and stuff, my god. I love all of the changes so much. Caithe also has a bustling social life, with probably 10 villagers at 5 hearts or more? She's odd, and always turns up with leaves and flowers in her hair at social events, but she clearly cares and her produce is downright magical.
yeah, honestly, my poor Nathaniel has more fucking money than he knows what to do with, because his farm is self-sufficient in terms of seeds, he has all the farm buildings he wants, he has like 30 (I am not exaggerating) kegs which he uses to make all of his crops into wine, ale, or beer (there are five preserves jars for the vegetables), he similarly artisanizes all of his animal products, and aside from a sort of variety pack for diversity's sake (about 5o crops), he devotes a lot of land to crops chosen for their monetary value. also his greenhouse is planted with 32 Ancient Fruit plants, 12 strawberry bushes, and 12 blueberry bushes, and the rest of the space (aside from where the peach and pomegranate trees are planted) grows a rotation of cauliflowers, melons, pumpkins, and starfruit. the number of crops stored for later brewing is so insane that he only keeps gold and silver crops, up to fifty of each. so yeah, stupid amounts of money (I blame the two Ancient Seed drops he got in the mines) and nothing to really spend it on, because he already got all the minerals and a lot of iridium ore by just straight-up buying like 100 Omnigeodes from Sandy every week until he got what he wanted, and since his Void chicken provides daily eggs for his husband (he literally wooed Sebastian by showing up twice a week, giving him a Void egg, and then ollying outie with a minimum of conversation), he doesn't have to buy gifts. all the fences on the farm are hardwood, so I don't think the doesn't-decay utility of the clock would be helpful? but debris is annoying when you have CLEARED YOUR ENTIRE FARM, THANK YOU VERY MUCH, and also spent most of a winter constructing a grid in which to plant wood-yielding trees so that SAPLINGS WOULD NOT SPAWN MESSILY, and random generation is RUINING YOUR HARD WORK. (Nathaniel is a very aesthetically-oriented person.)
This just in: Emily is weird and adorable and if I wasn't playing a Hawke with a Type I'd have him throw himself at her feet. (I got her first two heart events today. *_*) But, since he does have a type and that type is Hot Mess, he'll admire and support her as a friend, as he did once upon a time with Merrill.
I liked fishing. It gets a lot easier with time, and leveling up smooths it out quite a bit. Spent a lot of time fishing, before I got to basically becoming a monster hunter full time. Advice! There's a bridge you can make on the beach for like 100 wood, and it's a very good early game investment. Get a lot of money for the stuff that spawns there.
Especially in summer. Rainbow shells get a pretty decent price for something you can just pick up off the ground most days! (Also, fisher/monster-hunter fistbump.)
I don't even know how multiplayer would get implemented, would you like take the bus to the people's farms? Or would everyone be on one farm?
