i much preferred neelix's character when they let him grow beyond "jealous of tom paris"

i took the insecurity when Kes succeeds where he fails as "i am supposed to be the mature and experienced one i am done got out-did wtf,,," than gender-roles, see also the patronizing. he expects to be better than her, which is Uncomfortable.

and i hated her final appearance

    hated it

also im not groking, are you asking why the decision is gray? because regardless of anyone's feelings, Tuvix was his own being with his own right to life. it was a moral question of guessing at the desires of the separate men vs. the man who exists right then. the right decision in my eyes would have been to respect Tuvix's rights as a living, sentient being. The 'losing more crew' making a modicum of sense, at least, but i do interpret that as more rationalization than argument. tldr, unless the natural rights of others were endangered, Tuvix should have been allowed to make his own decisions.

if u do can i write a long yelling abt Retrospect? because Fucking No.

retrospect was fucked up. i remember leaving it on because i didn't want to skip it but deliberately doing other things so i could only vaguely pay attention. ):

I am with you on the hate. It was wtf.

And no, I meant more... It was framed as a Hard Decision With No Good Choices, and they the writers rushed it in an awful way to go back to the status quo. They the characters spent way too little time visibly admitting to themselves that this was bullshit. It felt like Not Star Trek. Somewhere Kirk is very disappointed in this disrespect for autonomy.

Yes, because NO is all I have for that episode right now...

I outright stopped bc I felt Sick and Unsafe

    //slams fists on table

LET TUVIX STAY FOR A FEW MORE EPISODES

and THEN create a reason that Tuvok and Neelix would have to split. Could be Tuvix decides to bc he needs to save his friends! Or, Tuvix is forced into it bc Tuvok and Neelix are both needed to save the ship but Tuvix is too desperate to stay in existence to allow himself to be split up. The second option allows for a lot of cool Tuvok and Neelix drama between each other and the rest of the crew. Both of them upset abt the disrespect for their autonomy, but relieved to be apart, but it's still Shocking.... And then the rest of the crew adapting to the absense of someone they had just gotten to know..... eUe

    I needs it

Oooh buddy I would write you an ESSAY

CRIES because now I'm imagining what Tuvix could have been in a less episodic show...

I really would've liked to see a better treatment of Tuvix, yeah.

God, though, can I talk about how uncomfortable Neelix and Kes made me? She was two years old, and, like, I know I'm supposed to apply alien logic to it, but she hadn't even gone through alien puberty yet. She was supposed to do that at... five years old, I think, based off of the episode when she started going through puberty early? I know she looks like an adult, so I should be fine with it, but it just skeeves me out personally. (Not to say that anyone else should feel bad for liking it, it's a me thing!!)

sCREAMS i need the fic for it ok i nEEDS IT GUYS

it wasnt so much her physical development, since by the standards of most species she looks sexually mature, regardless of her actual (nonvisible) level of sexual development. it was the lack of experience on her part that freaked me out, since i interpreted a fair bit of the relationship as being unintentionally(?) dictated by Neelix by virtue of being older and wiser. It wouldnt read as OOC if he had charged into the relationship (because LOVE!!!!) without regard for Kes' maturity (because love!!!!).

Neelix: always running away with his emotions! i think his decision to remain with the rest of his kind near the end was a sign of growing maturity on HIS part

Oh yeah like her lack of experience also freaked me out, I didn't mean to make it sound like it was just her being pre-pubescent which was fucking me up. Like - she's really clearly never done so much of this stuff and yet he swooped in and declared eternal love and - it steps on a bunch of my issues a lot, which is probably why I'm so unnerved by it, tbh. I just want to get him far away from her because it just reads as so unhealthy to me. Especially her trying to reassure him and go 'we choose one mate for life!' and him still being controlling and insecure about her. (And her having to choose a mate for life at that age/maturity level at all.) I guess this is what it means to have a notp!!

And yeah, it was easier for me to warm up to Neelix in later seasons when he was far away from Kes - I still had problems with him but I could appreciate his character more I guess? Which I think is better writing for him as well, the point about 'he's just jealous of Paris forever' upthread was a v. good one. I actually liked him deciding to stay with his people at the end, like he was thinking ahead and being more sure of himself.

Impulsivity/not thinking ahead: deffo a huge character flaw in him!

That and the insecurity. Tho it might tie into his impulsivity! Maybe the anxiety he exhibits is bc he made the wrong choices in the past and what we see is the beginning of the development that concludes at the end of his stay. Could also be due to a level of awareness of Kes' inexperience, that she hadn't seen other men and therefore maybe she never would have chosen him if she'd known better. Which, maybe she wouldn't have! Who knows, though, because he charged ahead into this all like LEEROOOOOYYYYYYYYYYY JEEENKIINNNNNNSSSSS in space.

HELLO, i have come to yell about star trek and im only just getting into the fandom so i havent read anything above. i might continue yelling if it's okay, but i dont wanna spam anyone and i dont want spoilers so i might not come back soon.

im watching voyager for the first time and im just sat here thinking about how pissed a lot of people could be about tes and neelix's relationship. just, they're consenting adults between their own races (i hope?) and that's good enough for me but i could see where it has potential cringe factor. they're really cute together tho.

also janeway is a hot power mom who i love. best captain i've met so far (even though i've only gotten to know the one). b'ellana is good and the doctor is VERY good and ensign kim is EXTREMELY good and this whole show is great with its overly convenient science buzzwords and horrifying organ stealers who aren't portrayed as slobbering monsters and character development heavy with moral dilemmas/ identity crisis.

also chakotay intrigues me and i'd love to know how much of the cultural stuff is real or just made up for a "magicky feel" which would be super disappointing, but im afraid to google because i dont want to hit any plot spoilers. i just finished season 1.

why does everyone hate the kardashians so much what did kimberly and fam do to you

just kidding, anyway i am so uncomfortable with the food replicator thing, pls let them feed themselves. i understand why it could go very bad and its against the directive thing, but you already broke it when you helped one species over another in the first episode??? they would have probably gotten access to the resources they needed if you hadnt interfered, i think you owe them.

poor chakotay, now two close crew members were fakes. it must have especially hurt since they had past romantic relations

last note, i stg the horrible death apples in the beginning of the ep were sitting in a bowl in the mess hall for people to take in later episodes

damn, the character development for b'ellana was amazeballs for this episode, and the plot hit so hard. the acceptance, the coming to terms with a part of yourself you hate, that you were taught to hate your whole life - it struck really close to home. also that one bit where they take scrappy background character's face and wear it like a mask and go "am i pretty now?" was really creepy and that type of body horror usually takes a lot to give me the willies

everyone's freaking out about rust, i wonder what's gonna pop up on scree- HEY, WHAT? WAIT WHAT? a car... why is car.

captain gives that stare she always does when something shocking happens. such a good expression. it reminds me of a sad puppy mixed with a starled cat.

    "is this an early hovercar?"

also why does paris know this specific car so well, what are the odds even with a special interest in vintage cars

...she knows horse manure by a one second sniff test. i love you captain.

hey wait is the radio playing sos. this just gets weirder and weirder.

what is happening here, are they about to run into some time thing. why do i suspect this "third planet" to be earth

    "we could land the ship"
-Katherine "go big or go home" Janeway

god i love that power stance

"ive never landed a starship before" "thats okay neither have i" thats not how it works pls dont guess for this sort of thing

im looking how close they were to that huge rock and imagining that scene with spongebob yelling YOURE GOOD as patrick shreds the flying dutchmans ship up

this is turning into some wild episode of the twilight zone. what s this plane doing here. why is there a random car in space. how did they track an sos signal from a dinky old car radio.

whoa, weird secret alien cave. ok i gotta sleep, im only like 15 minutes in but im passing out. night

ayo so ive not seen voyager yet, and ive seen most of TNG but rn i'm focusing on at least trying to get through the mass of hours that is TOS and i just wanna scream about some stuff that i noticed bc omg:

ok so with everything that ive learned about vulcans and whatnot, from what ive read they seem to prefer to not mindmeld/touch hands because reasons. and in TOS, they more or less show that to a degree when Spock gets his hand grabbed-
-by the blond lady who was carrying the emotional fuck-you-up-illness thing that was going around in that one episode-
-and seemes honestly freaked out/uncomfortable with it and thats understandable considering the connotations of doing that kind of thing to a vulcan.

and he never even mentions mindmelding until that whopper of an episode with the lava slug thing. and from that point on he seems more than happy to mindmeld w/ shit/people for Kirk and on many occasions grabs his hand(s).

i just find it interesting how they either forgot, or intentionally did it, it just makes their relationship much stronger in my eyes that Spock was so willing to do those things, even when he himself said they could be dangerous and forced him to feel emotions that he obviously dislikes feeling!

    right in the feels
