I didn't learn this today, but did recently, so I'd say it counts; I learned that large sea turtles can be as heavy as horses, and some of them enjoy pinning divers to the sea bed. Yet more reason never to go in the ocean.
Piranha shed the teeth on one side of their mouth at once, so they're never missing too many at once.
This wasn't today, but every time im reminded of it i still cant quite wrap my head around it: Originally, in the show Friends, the main couple was planned to be joey and phoebe but the actors shipped ross and rachel so hard the writers eventually changed focus. Im personally not a fan of ross and rachel and actually think theyre kinda toxic together, but as the show goes on phoebe and joey become more and more unlikely to couple up
Which is a shame, because Joey and Phoebe are the most consistently delightful characters on the show
Who could possibly have guessed that “you have six weeks to pander historically to a culture whose history you know nothing relevant about” might not go smoothly?
TIL that while we've known about the antimcrobial properties of brass for a long time, there's still some debate over the actual mechanism.
I just realized: could it be they have serifs because those are the letters most likely to be mistaken for each other? Z/z is only rarely used, and I think most other letters have more visual distinction
Not sure if I'm following your meaning - L vs l has that bottom bit, I vs i has the dot, and while some fonts lowercase L and uppercase I look very similar, it's not in this case.
Ahh. Yeah, I just mean mistaking the uppercase and lowercase versions of the letters, rather than mistaking C for S or vise versa
