Also, it's said that Frisk sleeps for like two minutes in Snowdin. I think, aside from maybe the Ruins, it's supposed to be pretty much real time. Doesn't some character near the end mention it was all a single day, actually?
Yeah, the nap in the ruins where you get the pie is the only one that has any indication of being more than a couple minutes (long enough for the pie to cool and Toriel to slice it, bring the slice into the room, turn off the light, and leave). The Snowdin nap is explicitly so short that the innkeeper returns your money, and... I forget about the Hotel. But it's all under a single mountain, and you cross the underground via roads and stairs.
Oh I forgot to say before There's gonna be Undertale stickers for Line, that messaging app And relevant to more of us There's gonna be a "barely-functioning Alarm Clock app" that Toby advises not actually using as an alarm, the main draw is having some of the characters have some limited dialogue options. He posted some previews in the link, quoting below Spoiler: dialogue samples Spoiler: Super quality example art Spoiler: Toby expressing regret about that image (I read it as "find my dad" rather than the sexual path I assume a lot of people went with, going by that added k at the end of the d word and the reference to passion...)
so i was going through the undertale tag on someone's blog and found a post about some unused Undyne lines that apparently got cut for being too dark. yup. too dark. in undertale. it was like, another way undyne's "seven human souls" speech could've gone. suicide tw
oh yeah the screenshots are mockups not actual screenshots, just the dataminer shopping the unused dialogue in to show what it'd probably look like in game
i ran a search for 'spark' in the strings (1.5), and found no reference to those lines. any idea why that might be? cut content is still, generally, found somewhere in there
it probably got removed in a patch the post was from last year, and the dataminer who posted it is uselessundertalefacts on tumblr
yup, i loaded up my old original strings file and it is, indeed, in there (00935-00936) which is really interesting, i didn't think they'd removed content in the recent updates
i'd say non-canon, if it's not accessible legitimately in the game then it's just insight into how the game could have gone if the developer made different choices
Non-canon but really interesting in terms of Spoiler: end of pacifist run spoilers Flowey's question about why Frisk would climb a mountain people don't return from.
I saw a theory that both Sans and Papyrus were Gaster, but not like...as one being. Nope they were two people, but they published all their works under the shared penname Gaster.
an undertale theory: you know how in the Undyne fight frisk gets given a spear to block Undyne's attacks with? they have no idea how to handle a spear. Chara, on the other hand, used to sometimes play pretend with a blunt training spear, as well as a game they and Asriel came up with where Asriel would throw snowballs and Chara would try to block them. (it was Asgore's but they had so much fun playing pretend with it that Asgore let them play with it under supervision.) so Chara helps them the spear...or alternatively possesses them for the duration of the green attack to block for them. either/or, it's Chara who knows how to make the spear do the thing.
and since undertale is a video game, that means when the player is bad at the spear, frisk is in control :P
imagine frisk and chara fighting for control over that damn spear and then wavering all over the place when they run away because they're still fighting for control
i just realised how temmie flakes could be paper and also food: construction rice paper ETA: waterfall seems like it'd be a good place to grow rice
i was thinking about how asriel only breaks the barrier as part of releasing the souls; his speech beforehand says that he has to break the barrier first, but what he does is let everyone's souls go and then break the barrier as they are leaving but still apparently connected to him. and then, of course, the coffins are all open and empty. breaking the barrier while releasing the souls seems like a bad idea especially given that it seems to involve a bunch of yelling or chanting or singing or whatever he is doing there. what if you take too long and enough souls leave that you overstrain the rest and hurt them? also, he said he'd break the barrier first but then does it during. what if that was because the barrier included something preventing it from being safely broken with dead human souls? like, something so that if you killed 7 humans and absorbed their souls and used them to break the barrier, it'd explode or something and bring down the mountain on them, so you need seven live human souls (or 6 and many, many live monster souls, or possibly maybe you could get by with a mixture of dead and alive human souls). it's not like the monsters would have any reason to run tests with the dead human souls to see if the barrier reacts differently to them. ETA: this would of course mean that a. asriel couldn't break the barrier without rezzing the humans in the process, requiring him to break it with the souls live but still linked to him, like, mid-rezz, and also that all the dead fallen humans and asriel himself died for nothing. any plan involving the death of a human to break the barrier was inherently flawed.
also there is a storybook thing of the opening animation! ...apparently, the poncho human's poncho is a tattered mess, and the human mage with the staff isn't wearing a hood but rather has really long hair and they may or may not be the long-haired human that the storybook has behind the poncho human in the battle/duel scene thing http://passivechara.tumblr.com/post/166762659501/storybookintro-comparisons
