The origin of my username isn't the most interesting but its definitely personal for you see, the two fandoms I love the most are Homestuck and Free! and the two characters I feel I can most closely relate to are Jake English and Makoto Tachibana, hence JakeTachibana although jake is a double wammy since that's also my chosen name

Nah, bro, that's just some stuff I've picked up over the years + my general background knowledge in taxonomy/paleontology + some cursory googling to fact-check and look at the current state of research. I really like the whole "problematic taxon" bit, actually, and when I first ran into them as a kid (my mom war reading me bits of Wonderful Life by Stephen Jay Gould, as I recall) people had even less idea where they fit on the tree of life. Also they look pretty unlike anything around nowadays, so those things really grabbed my imagination. I really like all the Burgess Shale fauna, but I think Wiwaxia is the best sounding one for a name, although Opabinia and Amiskwia are pretty good too.
Hmm. I'll see what I can remember. I think I first started going online when i was 12 or so, I went by the name "Arra" which was one of my OCs. Over time I stopped liking it (probably b/c too feminine) and moved on to Enzel. Username-wise, I went from my Star Wars Phase straight into my weaboo phase and went by Maxwell's Demon (reference to Gundam Wing and this) and then "sakurabatou" for quite a long time. I honestly cannot remember the joke that spawned that one, but I remember high school me thought it was REALLY FUNNY and it was also something to do with Rurouni Kenshin. Sometime before Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep came out (when we had just the character designs and names) my friends were planning a pyjama cosplay group, and since the character I wanted was already taken, I decided to do Terra instead. One of my friends found this hysterical, I guess because the game wasn't even out and no one had even cosplayed his REGULAR version yet, let alone a variant...I used "pyjamaterra" for a while. I still do for some sites. My tumblr "terrafying" is a pun based on that. (of course VEN became my favorite instead.) I've also gone by "stormfallen" which is a reference to one of Aqua's keyblades. Enzel comes from my amateurish japanese translation ability; it was how I transliterated a name that I found out later was supposed to be Angel, but it sounded cool so I decided to keep it. I've moved on to using "PyjamaEnzel" as a mashup on things for brand recognition that isn't tied to fandom. (minecraft, steam I think?) I'm a bit sad now because I used to spend ages thinking up clever rp usernames but my personal ones are just sorta...lame. So I'm going to LIST THE ONES I'M PROUD OF HERE. Spoiler: cut for irony and length so, my first username ever was unknown20troper, which i got from tvtropes, of course. it had like this automatic system for naming anons or something and that system named me unknown20troper. even though there is apparently an user called Unknown20Troper (yes, capitalized like that, unlike me). anyway, funny story, i don't think i ever got an account on that site, ironically - though young!me thought tvtropes had automatically given me an account. which is ridiculous but yeah... so i used (and still use) that username practically everywhere, including tumblr. but then, on tumblr, i got into a closed au rp group and made a separate tumblr account (a main, not a sideblog) for that. that blog, 70sarcasmandbowties, i named after three things related to the character i was rping - norm the genie - that had nothing to do with him being a genie. 'cause the rp was an all human au, basically. and then the rp ended and well, i just stayed on that account and made it into a personal, still with the same name. my independent norm the genie ask/rp blog is called asknormthegenierp, 'cause i like being straightforward. what it says on there is exactly what you get. and then, when choosing my username for kintsugi, i wanted something that i hadn't made use of anywhere else - thus unknownanonymous. which i chose 'cause it kept the anonymity motif going - i really like that. of course, i probs ruined the anonymity motif pretty quick when i got the icon and talked a lot about stuff on kintsugi but... eh, it's worth it. i don't think anyone is likely to find me on here anyway, unless they are already here. i'm not a bnf or anything, after all. yeah...
Acey is a nickname I picked up when I was 15 or so. Spoiler: vaguely personal info! My given name is Johanna Denise, which I always despised. So when I started middle school, I shortened Johanna to Anna. Problem solved, right? HAHA WRONG. My last name, as it happens, is Nickel. And middle schoolers are assholes, so I quickly got dubbed "Anna Nickel Smith." Like Anna Nicole Smith, of course. This pissed me off, of course, so I decided I should use a middle name as well...but I never liked Denise, so I went with something new. I decided on Cassidy, after a character from a cartoon I liked (though funnily enough, I didn't like the character much--I just liked her name best). So Johanna Denise Nickel ==> Anna Nickel ==> Anna Cassidy Nickel. Got it? Good. Anyway, I went by Anna Cassidy online for a time. One night, my friend Brett was signing off for the night, and he referred to me as Acey, based on my initials. In other words, Anna Cassidy ==> AC ==> Acey. TL;DR: It's a nickname of a nickname.
Mine's kinna silly. Back when I was in high school, we started to read cat on a hot tin roof. You know, the book they basically use to teach you about the word mendacity. I determined (in my infinite junior in highschool wisdom) that if we could just box up all of the mendacity in the world (the untruthfulness) then it would be a better place. Back then, as well, Gaia online usernames allowed you to have periods in them, so I did what any teen with some super basic knowledge of computers would do: I made the username Mendacity.rar, aka a .rar archive file for all the untruthfulness in the world to be locked away! It was kinna dumb. I've got a few more but none of them really have the same hilarious story. I have an older one that I still use named Rayneuki which was from my nerdy weeb / yaoi stages. Rayne is what I went by, Uki was a joke on Uke. It kinda became my 'brand' for a while until I hit tumblr.
Lissiel was the name of my TRUELY AWFUL mary sue self insert for lotr from back when i was 13. Keeps me humble, and i like the sound of it. :)
jumpin jack flash is kinda my personal theme song, but it's always taken wherever i go. on ao3 i was able to get jumpingjackflash with a g. on tumblr that was taken to so i went with jumpingjacktrash, a sorta reference to my old lj username, gomichan aka lil' trashy (which was a character i used to make out of an empty cigarette pack when i was drunk). and then i was just used to jacktrash so now i use it everywhere. people always think my name is jack, but i don't really mind that.
When I was in middle school I was a big Kingdom Hearts fan (and, um, still am) so me and my friends all Organization-ed our names and started using them as our screen names. (Honestly, I did mine pretty poorly- Roxan probably would have been better, but it's too close to Roxas...). Usually just Arxon is taken so in that case I use pyroarxon. I was also lunararson for many years on gaia before I quit that site and changed my username into garble, since it has the same rhythm as pyroarxon and is also fiery.
Name I made up for a character in an RPG (SWtOR anyone?) Pirate gunslinger. Laser swashbuckling is best swashbuckling. Am also fond of it because it fits the Homestuck six letter rule.
Key is the name I came up with for a character I'd made way back when I was still trying to get into roleplaying. The story never got off the ground, I think my first post was either the last or second-to-last anyone ever made. I think that was also when I gave up trying to get into RP. After that it became the name I used when I didn't want people who knew me to recognize me instantly... and it ended up being the name my sister used to credit me with in our comic, MARIA.
Mine is so dumb and weeboish. The origins is that the full name was Kijitora ... it was my oc from a Flame of Recca rp I was going with a friend. It was supposed to mean 'cloth tiger' (in flame of recca their names all matched their abilities? yeaaah I was like 18. The anime took hold of me hard). Anyways I normally went by like hayden1439 (which was the name of my biker mice from mars OC), but it wasn't available for some reason when I went to get a livejournal. And Kijitora was odd taken and I couldn't but a dash in so Kiji-kun became Kijikun. And it just sorta stuck. Did have people for a few years that kept thinking I was a guy because of the 'kun'.
In high school, my friends and I used to go thrift store shopping every other week or so, because we found the coolest stuff. Case in point: one time I found a paper-mache unicorn that was about the same size as my torso if turned sideways, covered in gold glitter. It was $15 so obviously I had to have it, because I've been obsessed with unicorns (and mermaids) since birth, practically. Anyway, a unicorn that awesome had to have a name, and we came up with "Sir Sparklepants." Sir Sparklepants is sadly no more (he was in the backseat of my car when I had to pick up someone who had a bike and he was crushed) but he was kind of our unofficial friend-group mascot for a while. Anyway, after I first got him, I took him into Taco Bell with me, because we always went to Taco Bell after thrift store shopping, and I made someone take my my picture because sparkly unicorn. That was then my avatar for a long time, me and Sir Sparklepants, and when I first got my blog, I named it "Sir Sparklepants and the Quest for 89-Cent Burritos". That was obviously shortened to sirsparklepants for url purposes, and now I use it everywhere. If it's ever taken (which it was once on twitter, once on gmail) I go by xxpixii, my former username spelled that way so it is never taken, based on a childhood nickname that's stuck around sort of on and off. So my mom's nickname for me has always been RiRi, which is just the second half of my first name doubled. I liked the sound and so when it came time to sign up for my first email account, that's what I used. Except, even though I knew it came from my name, I spelled it "ReRe" because that made more sense to me phonetically. Then, it changed to re15 and I'm not exactly sure why, I just really liked the number 15 during ages 10-12. Allyssa is my middle name and when I was younger, my grandfather would call me by it sometimes (I swear my family is allergic to calling someone by their given name). That bothered me for some reason (maybe because it was factually incorrect as you don't go by your middle name!! 4 year old me says) But! I wanted to reclaim it plus I think it sounds pretty together with Re. So now I'm ReAllyssa pretty much everywhere. My halloween url is JimmyTheHorrorTerror. It is because my hair is a horrorterror named Jimmy! Clearly. Spoiler: Story c/p'd from my tumblr One time my family + Christina were at Busch Gardens. It was the end of the day and we were riding to our car on the tram thingy. We were in the back, so there were two rows facing each other, and then one row back to back with another (like this ][] ) So the wind was blowing and my hair was flying all around and if you can’t tell by my icon I have a lot of it. So, I turned to the people sitting behind me and said “I’m sorry if my hair is bothering you; it eats people sometimes.” They laughed and said it was okay. Then my brother, sitting across from me, goes “No, really! We used to have a little brother named Jimmy!” in this distressed sounding voice. And we all laugh a little. Then my mom says, “Rafi! You shouldn’t say things like that!” “No, no. It’s okay! Jimmy would’ve wanted us to remember him with joy!” And so we all laugh harder now, but the people sitting behind me are starting to get weird looks like “are these people crazy or what” So I said, “Hey, stop complaining! You guys aren’t the ones who have to try to sleep at night!” Then Christina leans over so her mouth is by my hair and says “Help help! It’s dark in here! And hairy— I mean scary!!” And so now whenever my hair gets caught on something or someone, I scold Jimmy or apologetically tell the person, “Sorry. Jimmy wants a friend!” And that is the story of how my hair is a horrorterror. Edit: I actually go by Re in meatspace, but only my close friends. It's usually my online name so it's weird when random meatspace people call me it. xD Also I had a nickname Fried Chicken for a little while in 9th grade because once my friend was hungry at swim practice and decided my arm was a piece of fried chicken. xD Edit x2: My homestuck handle is faithfulIntellect bc I'm religious but I try to reason through things instead of just blindly believing. I'm a little less religious these days, but the sentiment still stands, I think.
I wanted 'Witch of Void', but I could see there was already a user called Void and I didn't want to cause confusion. In retrospect, I should have gone for something to do with pumpkins. Or at least, like, Witch of Emptiness or something. Something that made grammatical sense.
The very beginnings of my blog were me sending links to drama hooks I found in the vastderp tag search and signing them "Snitchanon" for continuity. And then I decided to make a blog of it, and the rest is apparently history.
Witchknights is a nod to Magic Knight Rayearth, which was my first fandom and still one of my favorite mangas/animes. (the first season, tho. the second is not as good.) it's also descriptive of my two main storytelling interests, magic/witches and knight-archetype characters. and i'm a knight of breath on Sburb, so... i'm trying to go as Marie online as short for Marianne, but most of my old friends know me as Kisa, which is another thing that pings my anime loving trash past and me identifying hard with kisa sohma from fruits basket. The story of my usernames: My original handle was StarWarsFreak14. That was the bad old days of AOL. Can you guess my primary fandom of the time? And because I so helpfully provided my age, I know I've had my own handle for only 15 years. At some point, I hit my weeaboo phase, and I started going by torahikari. This one carried me through Yahoo, LiveJournal, and Neopets. This is also my otherkin phase. (Don't judge me.) Eventually, I swapped to lighttigersoul. More poetic. Less weeaboo. I still use LTS as a gaming handle. Almost constantly. Some time after that, I decided I needed a "professional" profile on the internet, and thus started going by pathunstrom. While I was blogging, one of my mentors encouraged branding by coming up with a blog title. We did an exercise, she suggested A Digital Magician. And so, here I am.
