I feel the German version of this song needs a special mention.

Sometimes I feel it's fascinating how much of a villain song some of your faves turn out if you actually look at the lyrics, but I'd have to look at what I listen to again. (And try to get translations for some of them, because I speak neither a word of gaulic or finnish -sideeyes eluveitie and korpiklaani and some other bands-)

Tom Milsom - A little irony is a villain song, I feel.

'Scuse me while I go into a gushing puddle over my childhood:

The author himself narrated the audiobooks and had a full cast of character voices which included his son you guuuuuuys... Too bad not all the songs are up. I'd have loved a recording of the battle chant in "Marlfox". "Who be death? We be death! Dis de blade wot stop your breath!"

Ahem, getting into my more recent tastes (lyrics contain violence, please note)...

Also Nick Cave's "Murder Ballads" album, Decemberists' "The Rake's Song" and "Culling of the Fold", and pretty much every song except maybe Shilo's and Mag's in "Repo! The Genetic Opera".

I totally collect these, you can tell.

One more; I don't think the character is really a villain as such, but it's creepy enough and he is at this point in canon on the other side of a war from the protagonists.

  9. Ouija

  10. littlepinkbeast

    littlepinkbeast Imperator Fluttershy

not technically being sung by the character in-world, but it still fits:

And then there's villains so villainous they get more than one villain song in the same show:

Do only the major villains count, or do the adorkable minions' songs work too? If so, here's one:

    Excuse my minion fetish.

Here, have a written verse villain song by JRR Tolkien, courtesy of Mr. S himself

He chanted a song of wizardry,
    Of piercing, opening, of treachery,
    Revealing, uncovering, betraying.
    Then sudden Felagund there swaying
Sang in answer a song of staying,
    Resisting, battling against power,
Of secrets kept, strength like a tower,
    And trust unbroken, freedom, escape;
Of changing and of shifting shape,
    Of snares eluded, broken traps,
The prison opening, the chain that snaps.
Backwards and forwards swayed their song.
Reeling and foundering, as ever more strong
    The chanting swelled, Felagund fought,
And all the magic and might he brought
    Of Elvenesse into his words.
Softly in the gloom they heard the birds
    Singing afar in Nargothrond,
The sighing of the sea beyond,
Beyond the western world, on sand,
On sand of pearls in Elvenland.
Then the gloom gathered; darkness growing
In Valinor, the red blood flowing
Beside the Sea, where the Noldor slew
    The Foamriders, and stealing drew
Their white ships with their white sails
From lamplit havens. The wind wails,
The wolf howls. The ravens flee.
The ice mutters in the mouths of the Sea.
The captives sad in Angband mourn.
Thunder rumbles, the fires burn –
And Finrod fell before the throne.

Can't find a version of the actual poem set to music that I liked, but I did stumble across a couple interpretations of the confrontation with different lyrics

(although this Finrod needs to step his game the fuck up.)

(and this sauron needs to fucking enunciate)

Also, I suppose the Discord of Melkor is kinda the ultimate villain song, being the song that literally created evil and villainy, but good luck finding that on youtube.

    blue hightown funk you up

me, on mobile and therefore only seeing abbreviated titles: hmm, I wonder which songs those are!
me: (listens to first second of each)
    me: oooo good choices

#there used to be a time when I could literally sing the entirety of that musical from memory #... I could probably still do most of it

Oh man, I just love how at the beginning of brand new day there are those lines that rhyme in like six places, follow the tune of the song, and yet still convey a message in the correct tone without resorting to using weird and unfitting words just to rhyme.
