it's also relevant in an AU fic in one of my fandoms where a Cloned Character adopted the clone as a younger twin and so even though they're identical there's a ten year age diff but this wasn't that fandom.
now i'm thinking about papyrus/sans and how in the usual fanon, papyrus, the taller one, is the younger brother and sans, the shorter one, is the older brother THEN WHO WAS PHONE
I think the older Sans thing came from Toby talking about what Papyrus would call Sans in a Japanese translation. The other headcanon I saw that took that into account was "they both call each other that to confuse everyone else".
The most frequent takes on their ages have Sans as the older, partly because he's visibly more knowledgeable about their world (social and scientific), partly because of the pronoun tweet. Spoiler: Answer to who was phone #Undertail fontcest has made great use of the popular AUs to work around that problem of younger-taller and older-smaller and how it screws with the stereotype of big older doms and small younger subs. A majority of classic Undertale I've seen goes with dom Sans, but Underfell and Underswap go with dom Pap. They use the changed personalities to get closer to the cliches, and ukefy the shit out of swapSans. Suffice to say, my faves feature stuff like cranky sub UF Papyrus, and I'm bored by most of the AU fontcest I see.
yeah, but as you said, there are at least two ways to interpret what toby said. and undertale has an interesting way of playing with vagueness, of giving out more or less info than assumed on a first look.
Sorry this so long, there was a tragic explosion in my salt factory. Firstly: Is it just me, or is this warning weird? For a G-rated M/M pairing fic. You rated the fic G, nobody's going to be coming in expecting sex, and it's about two people's lives together, intimacy kinda goes without saying? I checked their other fic to see if they do that for everything, and their Captain America genfic does not warn for intimacy, but does reiterate that the fic is gen, not slash. You marked it gen! You used the Steve & Bucky tag! It's not a problem, why. Secondly: I first encountered Hanahaki disease in a Blue Exorcist fic last week, and just assumed that it was a magic disease that only the people in the hidden world knew about. Later chapters proved me wrong, and I was only able to get past the shoddy paste job because I have a love for Rin hurt/comfort (the actual Kyoto arc should be enough for me, but apparently not) and because the descriptions of the symptoms were satisfyingly graphic and gruesome. Thirdly: Yuri!!! on Ice fandom, why you do this to me. I've found worse Russian abuse: "Разговор в России." [Razgovor v Rossii/Translation into English] Pointing out in the notes that you know age of consent in Russia and Kazakhstan is 16, but you're having Otabek and Yuri P. wait until Yuri P. is 18 is mildly annoying, but making a point in story of Otabek refusing to have sex until Yuri P. is 18, for no reason, is obnoxious. One or two fics did come up with a reason, and that's OK, I guess. It just reminds me that antis exist and I get really tired. Also, why/how did spelling Yuri K.'s as 'Yuuri' become a thing, his name is the title of the show. Fourthly, some random gripes: Every time someone tries to write ballroom dancing and says that the lead "put their hand on the follow's waist," a piece of my soul dies. It's the shoulder blade. Watch a video, there's plenty on Youtube. It's too ingrained to change, but every once in a while I think, "Why do all these different cultures use the same terminology in the a/b/o AUs? Shouldn't they use different words?" I go into every a/b/o AU assuming that humans are hermaphrodites and everyone has a suitably AU genitalia situation. I always, always get blindsided by the self-lubricating assholes. "Heat suppressants," I'm pretty sure you mean birth control. I don't hate soulmate AUs, but soultimer AUs just make me want to scream TIME IS A SOCIAL CONSTRUCT.
Friend who's been reading lots of bad YOI fic ran across a de-aging fic where... I think it was Yuuri... got de-aged to 16 and they didn't just have to immediately cease all physical contact because "it would be illegal," they had to move out and make their relationship long-distance because apparently it would be Badwrong for them to even be in the same house together now. Note that the de-aged character still had a 20-something mind. I have had this conversation. Hell, linguistically, if this is just a fact of human biology, nobody should be casually using "alpha/beta/omega" terminology- it'd be as baked into every language as words like "man" and "woman," with etymologies to match, not arbitrarily applied Greek letters. The Greek letters should be technical medical language or something, if they exist as terms at all. And there should be SO MUCH SLANG.
Ugh. Honestly, the hyper-focus on age and avoiding the Badwrong is way creepier to me than youth/virgin fetish porn. So true. I kinda want to write an a/b/o fic, but really I want to write a manual. How does birth control work? What are gender roles like? Who can reproduce with who and how? How does lineage work? Everything about human society would be different. Especially the slang, though I shudder to think what fandom would come up with. <gripe mode> I also hate the phrase "secondary gender." It's like nails on the chalkboard of my soul. </gripe> Wow, I just realized that since figure skating is divided into men's singles, women's singles, and (f/m) pairs, that would be different in an a/b/o AU. Would there be (/counts...) six different singles divisions? How would pairs be set up? Or it could be more Left Hand of Darkness style, there'd be just one singles division, and I guess pairs wouldn't be gender based. Overthinking Porn Premises: the Pukjie Ainsel story
I forget which thread it was where somebody gave us the term, "a treatise on Pernese embroidery motifs," but this is much the same. Except with weird not!werewolf mpreg dubcon. 99% of it would be so bad as to be either painful, hilarious, or both.
I've never heard the card slang before, I like it! That's not perfect from a world-building perspective, but at least it's not embarrassing.
When I see people fixating about young school break adolescents going wild, I really think that they're min-maxing for optimal ~not illegal~ sex. Like a neon sign overhead saying the only reason they're not going after younger people is because they would get in legal trouble. So the hyperfocus on age doesn't come across as caring for people and wanting to avoid hurting them by doing things when they're not ready; it comes across as trying to avoid consequences.
I guess for me "adolescent" means under-18 while for you it doesn't, then. That was what threw me off.
I'm late to this thread but please tell me "Namine" (at least use the é when you rip a character. Please.) had a mist flame.
Discussion of bad YOI fic has concluded that there needs to be a browser extension that replaces any mention of the word "consent" in the text of a fic with .
