.............Whirl. Whirl is much more likely to wind up calling someone an insult as a pet name. Just sayin.
The premise is so gold! It almost manages to get me in the MUST! FIX!!! place where I'd be able to go off and write my own and make myself happier, even if I couldn't really yoink the premise. But even though it's such an excellent ship, it's Whirl has so many excellent ships and Rung keeps himself emotionally closed off so well, even from.... me......... :V that it's hard to get in there and make myself do the thing YES EXACTLY. He's going to tie himself into a pretzel trying to dodge Sincere Feelings. If you show emotion, that means you're VULNERABLE. It means you're opening yourself up to rejection. It means people are going to understand how you work, and you don't want them to know how broken you are. Even if he's in deep, if he expresses emotions sarcastically, it keeps himself safe. We see him open up in front of an audience of corpses. We see him baaaarely open up to stop someone from getting shot in the face. We see him open up a little more when he runs into the guys who, in his own words, have already "killed him". And that's even without getting into his natural provocative asshole personality, that's just the extra stuff. It hurts me. Whirl. Whirl is my fanfic gripe. I love him so, so dearly, and it hurts extra how often I see him get turned around into something so very different. People tend to... patch him up. It distresses me. His damage and the slow burn of improvement is a giant piece of his character, and it upsets me when the ugly stuff gets ignored, because ooooh he's not as likeable or something yes thank you that is the point, he is not a likeable character, and that is why I love him. (alternate fanfic gripe: whirl is the biggest jackass on the face of the planet! and accidentally-on-purpose rewrites rung's entire mind for permanent to make rung his 5ever sex/breeding toy. less of a gripe because it was a dead dove commission fic and I do dig the dead dove premise. but also whirl is not that much of an asshole D:) (eta: apparently whirl has been bothering me more than I thought :PPPPP he is pretty much my fanfic gripe (so I can pretend this robot text wall was relevant, right??), in terms of who consistently bothers me the most in fanfic characterizations)
Whirl is terrible at sincere emotions, agreed. He miiiight call someone a petname if he could poke fun at them with it? maybe? but idk. A Whirl pretzel is an amusing and kinda cute mental image btw. I am now imaging him like a cat, comfy in the weirdest postitions. Now I wanna draw this. Someone: Whirl are you hurt? Whirl: What? No! Someone: That looks painful Whirl: -pretzels harder-
That'd depend on exactly what kind of fuel is being used, and given unmodded KSP just goes with a generic 'Liquid Fuel/Oxidizer' (that doesn't quite fit for LOX/LH2), it could be something rather nasty. I mean, if they're using hydrogen/flourine combustion or something (and the Kerbals totally would)... Also, you probably wouldn't want to inhale rocket exhaust even if it is just H2O. Also wtf there are Kerbal Space Program fics?
First Flight is pretty nice. I was specifically referencing an awful crossover with, of all things, My Little Pony. The fic tried desperately to be funny and failed.
The quote from the fic: So, "noxious", not toxic, but the air filter thing probably does mean it's intended as "toxic". Also, "hydrogen smoke" is still a really weird way to put it.
... hydrogen does not smoke though? Seems to me "smoke" implies presence of charred carbon particulates. ... Does anyone know if there is a formal-like chemical definition of "smoke?"
I... feeeeeel like smoke is supposed to just refer to the product of a combustion-type reaction, though I think there's a chemical exception I'm blanking on (fake edit wiki cheat: pyrolisis is 'thermochemical decomposition at high heat in the absence of oxygen')
The product of a combustion type reaction between hydrogen and oxygen is, in fact, water. Though from the mention of electromagnets, I'm almost thinking the smoke is coming not from the engine, but from the electromagnet's capacitors/coolant thereof? Though I have no idea why it'd be hydrogen-based.
The mention of electromagnets was completely out of the blue, I'm assuming they think launch clamps work like that? Which, uh, they don't, but this is KSP, so.
Why would you write fic about Deadpool, and take away his ability to break the fourth wall, his healing factor, his cancer, and his suit, his weapons . . . why even. Why this.
as if that would've stopped the real deadpool from communicating his opinions via expressive dancing.
Basically, Ryan Reynolds had been wanting to play Deadpool FOREVER, but the studio screwed him over by saying he had to appear in Wolverine Origins before they'd let him make a Deadpool movie, and they gave him a lot of delays and a crappy budget on that movie. (Which was still awesome in spite of the studio screwing them over.) Wolverine Origins had about 5 minutes of Wade Wilson acting like Wade Wilson, then did this to the poor bastard. Fandom dubbed him "Dudepeel" and "Barakapool," because this was clearly not Deadpool, and there's some swipes at it in the Deadpool movie, because Ryan was just as bitter about it as they were.
