Back on the copy-pasted script issues, I have a particular instant-backspace-level loathing for when the writer types out the song lyrics and changes them to refer to the characters and locations they're now using, and in doing so makes them no longer rhyme or scan.
It's like the moral implications of 'helping' people to god tier. In my fic you have Gamzee and Vriska and Aradia, aka Team DIE EVERYONE YOU'll COME BACK STRONGER ::::D, versus almost everyone else, who are all still operating under the 'killing people or encouraging them to commit suicide to hit god tier is still kind of Not Good, guys' mindset. They're all getting a little less uptight about it as time goes on, but that's because there aren't that many of them left who still need to god tier, so the point is rapidly becoming moot. Vriska would absolutely mercy kill someone with a bad splinter to help them out if they whined about it too much, now that I think about it...
"Of course I would! That's totally reasona8le! They were 8eing SUPER annoying and harshing my 8uzz! He ought to thank me, and I was 8eing merciful to mys8lf too!!!!!!!!"
This is more of a theory gripe, but: 'what if all this amazing creative fantastic stuff was all happening in the main character's delusional mind' junk.
Sucker Punch took the premise and played around with the interpretations of it, rather than using it as a weak justification for ~*bizarre*~ circumstances. That makes the difference, I think.
Yeah, the delusion was the premise instead of being used to handwave the premise. I'd love to see fanfics which played like that. (Okay, I admit it, I also want to see my favourite male characters in the Dead Dove asylum and battling zombies while wearing skimpy outfits.) An unconnected gripe; "The problem with most fanfics containing contrived marriage/sex laws is that they often don’t think about what would happen if the member of the “superior” faction were a woman."
Now I want to see a fanfic in which the perfectly ordinary setting is a delusion of a character who lives in a super-weird world.
There's a Tumblr post circulating about turning grimdark things into happy light fluffy stuff that way. e.g. ASoIaF/GoT is a DnD game with a sadistic DM who has vowed to kill everyone's characters.
I'm crying who the fuck wrote that and which poor character did they pin it on honestly Sudden Unexplained Musical fic that has a sense of humor about itself sounds incredibly quality... I kind of want to write some now... I mean. he is a fucking pirate. okay, okay, "privateer," but those are literally just government-sanctioned pirates. although I feel your pain about terrible fucking quirks, my god. WHYYYYY WOULD YOU DO THAT RHYMING IS INCIDENTAL BUT THEY HAVE TO SCAN
Oh, here's fanfic pet peeve of a completely different sort: my need to obsessively refresh my AO3 dashboard after I post something to watch the hits and kudos counts. The last thing I posted was a month ago and I don't think I've gotten another hit on it in at least a week and I'm still doing it periodically. :::PPP
...I was really hoping it was anybody but McGonagall D: excuse me while I go scream into a pillow for a while kthx
