I went on a Dresden Files fic dive a few years ago just to see what the predominant trends were and noticed that there was a lot of DF fic where people tried to copy Harry's narrative voice and didn't quite manage it, so he wound up sounding like a smarmy 13-year-old. (DF/DA fusion would definitely have potential, it occurs to me. Harry as a mage who got adopted and raised by an apostate blood mage, got taken to a Circle and managed not to be executed by the Templars because Grand Enchanter McCoy pulled some strings, clashed with the Circle leadership a lot, and eventually jumped at the chance to join the Grey Wardens so he can get out of this stupid tower.)
This fic had the premise that Harry stumbled out of the rift in Inquisition, which I could see going really interesting ways but they decided to appearantly give him amnesia to...match the DAI sotry? idk. It was dumb and took away potential interestingness. And yeah his voice was entirely wrong.
The only way I could see the amnesia thing being interesting is if it was set when Lash is in his head and she came to the rescue with information and bits of his lost identity. Then you could have the tension of a) the fact that she's not exactly trustworthy and b) as far as anyone from Thedas was concerned, that'd probably make him an abomination hosting a desire demon, and put him at risk of immediately getting offed by a Templar if anyone found out.
I read a lot of Batman fanfiction. Mostly, I read fics featuring the Batkids. As a consequence, I have been exposed to many interpretations of all the kids and some of them are extremely irksome. For example: 1: Tim Drake as health-conscious and cultured. This kid works too hard, mainlines coffee, and eats the worst pizza topping combination known to man. Maybe that changed after he lost his spleen, but we don't really see that. 2: Dick Grayson portrayed as "I have no characterization beyond sunshine and hugging! Cereal isn't just my favorite food, it's my religion! I am 100% family oriented and kind at all times, and I would never be an asshole to someone I care about! What do you mean you don't want me to touch you, that just means you need more hugs! It's not like I have Issues surrounding questions of consent and would respect your boundaries and bodily autonomy!" Jfc. 3: Jason Todd as a brainless thug, or anything portraying him as doing drugs -- you know his mom died of an overdose, drugs are a sore spot for him. Or anything that has him hurting children, or raping someone. Even if it's Tim; Jason has no qualms about murdering him but you have his character completely wrong if you think he would ever under any circumstances commit rape. People seem to go well, Jason's a bad guy, right? All bad guys are fundamentallythe same, right? Time to make him do bad guy things! 4: Anyone who thinks Stephanie Brown is weak or dumb can fucking fight me. There's more but that's the big things. Characterization. It's a thing.
Re: the Dresden files folk here: I accidentally wrote the beginning to, of all things, a Micheal/Harry thing and oh my god his voice is difficult.
Harry/Marcone seem to be a popular ship. Though sadly no one seems to have heard to gospel of homestuck and spades.
I can't ship Harry/Marcone because later book Marcone is almost dadly and shit toward Harry. But Dresden <3< Nicodemus tho...
Dear author: Having your protagonist grab a teenager by the throat and tell him in graphic, threatening detail that he's in a situation where he could be raped like said protagonist was…does not make me think the protagonist is the heavenly-blessed worldly-wise protective mentor figure you seem to want me to think he is. No, not even if he's trying to convince the teenager (who is a character you created solely for your protagonists to be better than, anyway) to give up being a prostitute. Kind of especially not then, in fact. …I repeat, the protagonist choked a kid and threatened him with rape, and this was supposed to be good life-coaching. (and I probably don't even need to add that it was ridiculously OOC, because I wouldn't have a problem if it wasn't.)
Gotta love when a fandom kinda collectively forgets that a character is disabled. Especially when it's a plot point in the original canon.
Update: Yuuri in this fic speaks in dialogue that consists ENTIRELY of strawman homophobic cliches, with literally nothing in between them. And the author does not appear to realize that homophobes come in multiple flavors, and someone who's homophobic Because Religion is highly unlikely to randomly start ranting about how bisexuals always cheat and should pick a side. At least they made him American; I was half-expecting the writer to transplant Bible-Belt religious homophobia onto someone born and raised in Japan without checking how most people in Japan approach religion.
