Something I particularly enjoy is when someone tags like thirty different characters plus so many content tags (for some reason it’s usually a list of sex acts) so you get this book of tags that fills an entire screen
True suffering: "I have tagged about 100 characters, 50 fandoms, and 200 specific sex acts because this is my drabble fic collection, and I do not give a solitary fuck about anyone being able to find any specific thing in the mess. It's 1.3 million words long. You're welcome."
My inability to kill the trolls in violent Homestuck fics which would really require some death to not be weirdly jarring. I feel too sorry for them. I can kill the trollcestors fine as long as I kill the whole set of twelve. I don't like to not have a full set.
If they're not going to do that, I wish they would at least let me reorder them so the ones I remembered I should add after I posted the fic aren't stuck at the end behind a snarky non-content tag, being messy. :::PPP
disagree, that'd make it harder to tell if the author added new tags during the course of a fic. and also would muddle up clarifying tags
Yeah, I honestly just wish I could reorder mine, like @LadyNighteyes suggested. Although I like the idea of being able to toggle alphabetical vs. author's order...
I just want there to be a filter for primary ship, secondary ship, central characters, and characters that are basically only there to be there.
One of my gripes is being a fan of obscure pairings and fandoms. I also have a habit of getting into small fandoms where all the fanfiction authors have moved on to other fandoms or stopped writing fan fiction altogether.
Same. The only real solution for this seems to be aggressively dragging your friends/fandom acquaintances into your new fandoms and ships with you. I used to not know this trick but now I've had it used on me multiple times and I'm starting to get the hang of doing it myself. Occasionally, making a ship manifesto/why you should watch this show post can also help, but usually only if there are 3+ people to reblog it to excess.
Not a fic I myself found, but a friend of mine came across a SU futurefic where Connie is elected President--something of a fandom-specific plot, but a fun one and not overdone, so he decided to have a look. He noped out when he discovered that in this fic, Connie Maheswaran was a Republican. Yeah. (And even without getting into the whole "why would you make your sympathetic protagonist a Republican in this day and age, especially since she's a woman of color" thing, the one political stance she shows in canon--regarding peak oil--is a liberal stance...)
Every time u only genderchange one person and make them a completely different character a lesbian rolls her eyes The lesbian is me
Also. I am probably being obnoxious about this. But if there is one character who dates three others, and the others aren’t romantically involved, I’m not sure it qualifies as an OT4
That's more a polyamorous arrangement where only one of the people involved is dating multiple people.
I get a kick out of inconsistent curse levels in bad writing. I already mentioned "utter cow-skite" followed two sentences later by the same character saying "fuck", him being a character who would canonically use neither term. Harry Potter fanfic is also rife with writers not getting the severity levels of Britishisms; a friend of mine pointed out one in which "fuck" was followed in the same speech by "git", and said this is the equivalent of calling someone a "dang shithead". After the XKCD strip which riffed on that, I'm now determined to have a character call someone a "gosh-darned cunt". Leaning towards an exceptionally upset Zahhak.
I guess this is the point where I mention that there's plenty of people in the Bible Belt that will call you every slur under the sun but be horrified and offended by the idea of taking the Lord's name in vain, huh? :P
