A friend and I were chattering about an age-gap AU for a couple of our characters, and it reminded me of a thing from a fic waaaay back, years ago, that bugged the hell out of me. It was a Harry/Snape fic, set in year 4 or 5, and Snape was going "the law says I cannot have sex with you...but it doesn't say anything about you having sex with me, ha ha we have found a loophole everything's fine as long as you're the one doing the penetration". And even at the time, I thought the logic there was sketchy because that didn't seem like how that law would actually work. Looking back and knowing what I know now about how laws work? No, fic author, your characters did not just find a clever loophole. The law doesn't give a fuck who's topping, it just cares about the ages.
Yeah, combine that with Snape having been going on about how gay sex between teacher and students was totally normal, the Greeks did it all the time and modern society is just prudes who don't recognize the Maturity of a Young Teen before the whole 'haha, we have found a loophole' bit came up, I...am not entirely sure that this wasn't literally the author's fetish. It was a hell of a thing, anyways.
that’s.... uhhhh. i used to read a fair amount of snarry and some of it was fucked up (intentionally so) but that is uhh. nope
Somehow I knew exactly what song you were referring to before I clicked that link. XD #there are few things more beautiful than seeing your 50-something anglo-catholic mom watching that video and laughing her ass off
Just got a comment on one of my fics reading, "Anyone else here wish there would be more chapters?" I realize this is probably intended to be a compliment, but can u not.
Spoiler: Embarrassing It's entirely too common in AU Destiel stuff for the author to take weird little potshots at Dean's past girlfriends or hookups, and it's always incredibly petty and uncomfortable. Like, the one I just read had Dean literally cringe away from "Lisa" flirting with him, and it's like. Can we maybe not? Especially with Lisa, that character was ridiculously accommodating, can we not pretend she was hideous and terrible and the worst sort of person cause she was standing between Dean and Castiel's dick?
Spoiler: It's nothing to be embarrassed about, you're not the one being a d-bag. This is a known issue with almost every slash fandom ever. There are multiple causes: 1) they can't figure out how to break up the canon relationship if nobody's an asshole; or 2) they are biphobic; or 3) they are jealous af and using one of the pair as a self-insert; or 4) they're very new to writing. They do it in Wincest, too, and that's even sillier--there are a dozen reasons, for example, why Sam might not have managed to stay with Jessica even if she hadn't died, and none of them are "she turned into a jerk for no reason". Eventually they grow out of it.
When I really really want to write something super gory and battle-filled a la my current favourite fic CWCollateral but I don't want to kill any of the characters in my fandoms because I don't think any of them deserve to die ;_;
People who don't account for tone when they're using dialogue tags other than 'said'. If this adorable highschooler has never come down from a pitch higher than most songbirds, she's probably not 'growling' anything. Likewise, if this man hasn't stopped gargling gravel for three seconds every time he's talked, I'm seriously doubting that he's cooing, squeaking, or wailing anytime soon. Those "said is dead" posts? Yeah, no, all of those words actually like. Mean things.
Also, just generally, the word 'mewl'. That's a terrible word to come across in a sex scene. Please Cease.
[does the grow-wow-row-wow noise cats do when they’re growling and eating at the same time, but like, erotically]
Spoiler: nsfw The mental image of someone doing that on a dick just retroactively went back and edited all my writing into genfic, thanks.
