Why is there fanfic where my fave insists he's straight??? Spoiler: Scum Villain's Self-Saving System Airplane "I'd Rather Write Tragic Gays But Het Power Fantasies Sell" "Included One (1) Other Hot Guy Who Survives As Deliberate Self-Fanservice" "Praised By Fringe Fujoshi Fanbase As 'Natural Fudanshi' Even In Shallow M/F Harem Fic" Shooting Towards the Sky did not die for this >:(
I’m quietly dying of persistent chuckles. I didn’t know this was possible. Spoiler: Scum Villain’s Self-Saving System Airplane? Yes, there’s a man who definitely believes he’s completely straight. For heaven’s sake, this story does not need a second person who is absolutely sure they’re straight despite any and all evidence to the contrary. The one is highly entertaining, but that is just too much. At that point it would basically have to be some cluelessness curse, because despite SQQ’s scathing opinions on nearly everyone’s intelligence, he is the least clued person in the whole world regarding same sex attraction. He does not need the company.
i kept reading this fic despite repeated usage of "greenette" (by which i mean... 86 uses in 75,000 words, meaning there's one greenette per every 900 words), so that's on me, but i wasn't expecting a character hiding in a literal closet during a training exercise to be grounds for weird and out of place jokes about being closeted. like. what? yes, grow up... that is my advice for this author, because what? where is this coming from? why? (bonus points for a bakugou who started as "plausible character divergence due to thinking for a solid week that his suicide baiting of izuku actually resulted in his death and being horrified" and is now "completely unrecognizable as bakugou")
I'm as fond of whump as anyone else, but I'm deeply annoyed by fics which have magical beings and superheroes assaulted or defeated by perfectly normal humans with no mention of anything to override their powers, especially when the magical being/superhero in question defeated or scared off normal humans with zero effort over something far more trivial.
Characters inexplicably gaining human weaknesses is the entire reason I have such a hard time finding TF whump that doesn't completely destroy my suspension of disbelief. They're mechanical.
I was thinking of a lot of stuff on the Good Omens kinkmeme, but yeah, Transformers sound like they'd be very susceptible to that as well. Seriously, Crowley's got no reason to put up with being unwillingly manhandled by non-magical humans when he can do this at 3:30 (tw face horror):
It's just the talk to each other song from mr Greg - it's my reaction to the book I'm reading (which I should have made clearer, sorry)
Went summary-browsing and encountered a Harry Potter fic tagged "Alternate Universe - Fantasy." I know what they meant. But also.
I should also add that it was a Fantastic Beasts fic, and the summary mentioned "the Kingdom of MACUSA." Still in all caps like an acronym.
I know this is like, maybe really niche, but if you're going to put in the effort to say your character uses weibo, don't??? have things be in USD??? and other americentrisms??? idk if tumblr writblr can circlejerk to "haha my fbi agent must think I'm a serial killer because of all of these super specific and weird fic research questions I was looking up for a hannigram fic" and people can put in the hours to learn detailed world building about Tolkien I feel like... You can maybe put the effort in here too :/
I mean, looking up 'what currency do they use in China' isn't even that hard. Americacentrism are tricky, but... ow. ...alternatively, they did so little research they didn't even know Sina Weibo and it's compatriots aren't really used outside of China? Or... given it's just a term that means 'microblogging', maybe they're... actually Chinese and did research on everything but that? I dunno.
*flashbacks to that TWEWY prostitution AU where the author just changed the $ symbol to ¥ without checking the exchange rate, so the character was charging bus fare*
Per people familiar with the fandom, it would not in fact have been out of character for the character in question to charge 500 yen for sex, it was just apparent this was not intentional.
