Art gripe rather than fic gripe; there's an artist who draws torsos in the weirdest way and it just looks so bizarre. I'm not quite sure how to describe the problem but... male torsos are typically drawn narrow at the hips and broad at the shoulders, but it looks like this artist is drawing them that shape front to back as well as side to side. They look roughly conical.
Hey, angry reviewer; I'm pretty sure you can't logically argue simultaneously that no one wants to read our work and that it's taking attention away from yours.
so I'm imagining Angry reviewer saying: "no one WANTS to read your work, they all only want to read mine / my favorites, BUT somebody has TRAPPED them with a wicked spell that FORCES them to read yours against their will!!! /pitchforks"
Their suggestion was to post every entry in the list separately, which... wouldn't that take up even more space?
Only on the author's works page. For readers, those drabbles would be seen one at a time, in the listings for their respective fandoms. Posting a new one wouldn't bump the entire crazy tag-wall. Imo, the "series" feature is a better choice for a drabble collection than a multi-chapter work.
The collection's already part of a series of multi-chapter crossover fics - the series would end up about ninety pages long if we separated everything out. Honestly, I think this is just more evidence AO3 needs a collapse feature for tag lists.
Multichap crossover drabble collections with tons of tags are, I feel, just in poor form. They're irritating. Yes I can scroll past it. Yes I can filter out crossovers. But like. I am kind of annoyed that I need to go and sort out crossovers every time I do look into fic because I'm going to run into an irritating drabble collection full of fandoms I don't care about. To separate drabbles out you can either...A, just post the individual drabble for a fandom or, B, create themed drabble collections for just that particular fandom and that particular character. I have a poem collection that is a multichap for The Locked Tomb, for example, that is just centered around Harrow and weird religious shit. This is so that I don't irritate people with tons of little short poems, but also so I don't irritate people with a giant fucking tag wall.
Now as for breaking this collection up...You could set a schedule for how you release the individual drabbles. Either as smaller themed collections or as individual fics. Just release like one of these in each fandom you are working with a week. That way you don't irritate people with suddenly all these drabbles on one day, but you also have a reasonable schedule for getting them all out. Following that, just release the drabbles as individual works in a series or as themed multichaps limited to one fucking thing.
I don't really want to filter out crossovers, because if it's an actual crossover I might want to read it. I kind of like crossovers. A "work" where each "chapter" is an unconnected piece about a different fandom isn't a crossover. It follows the letter of the rules but breaks the spirit.
+1 to tag walls for drabble chaptered fics being annoying and irritating and most likely to get me adding a -creator tag to my search. Also by doing the tag wall thing you kind of are shooting yourself in the foot wrt readership: no one wants to click/scroll through 90 chapters to find the one or two drabbles that pertain to their fandom or ship.
I feel like lumping multiple crossover fics that don't have a throughline together into a single fic also feels like it goes against the spirit of Ao3. Like, I don't even particularly like when people lump all their drabbles for a single fandom into a single fic.
i highly recommend AO3 Crossover Savior; it hides works with too many fandoms, and how many is “too many” is configurable (i have mine set to like 6.) unfortunately as usual with third party tools it’s generally a desktop-only thing, so not a solution if you like to browse on mobile. there is some potential good news, though: apparently Sexy Times With Wangxian, the fic that had thousands of tags and became an accessibility nightmare as well as a giant pain in the ass, got hit with a 75 tag limit (that’s 75 total, across fandoms, ships, characters, and additional tags), and it sounds like this will eventually be sitewide policy? source is this twitter thread about what’s gone down with Sexy Times With Wangxian once the author’s 30-day suspension was up.
I was raised on ff.net where you had to explain your entire story in a paragraph. Or just figure out how to garner interest in that paragraph, and I was BAD at it. People still read and commented, I just hated making the summary.
A friend just discovered the new and improved tongues battling for dominance: "they trace every tooth with their tongues as though trying to memorize them." Me, thinking about both the experience of a dentist messing around with your molars and the length of the average human tongue relative to the depth of the average human mouth: "...Hmmm."
I don't see the point of French kissing. It's one of those things people tell you you'll grow to like but I'm pretty sure I won't XD tongues can go a lot of places, but not in my mouth
Gotta say I love french kissing like nothing else and that is NOT a description I'd use for the act. That puts a weird level of focus on teeth which like...In my experience is not there during the act??? At least tongues battling for dominance is involving the proper body bits.
I'd only think of the touching teeth thing if it was some kind of first encounter with xeno life form and the mouth bits were more novel then your usual expected encounter...
