Yeah sometimes i just want. pornography. And i see pwp a lot less these days, you'Re right and i wonder if that ties back into the 'you can skip the porn here'thing by people trying to please the current mood of Smut Bad by still writing it by fenceposting how to avoid it?
There might be coevolution because people started doing that on FFnet to dodge their various bans and random content purges. You'd post the PG-13 stuff on FFnet and then host the smutty parts offsite.
That frustration when you want to read fics about a character and not fics they happen to have cameos in. Also I keep looking up specific Zelda games but Ao3 keeps giving me the 'Linked Universe' fics and they are impossible to filter out. No! I keep excluding fandoms but it keeps happening!
It doesn't seem to work, and I don't know if it's because there's multiple Linked Universe tags or what.
Ah yes, the classic "I liked this fic so I'm rewriting it with very minimal changes and drastically decreased quality, but otherwise so incredibly dead on the details that it's impossible to mistake". I am quite annoyed.
@YggiDee I think the issue is that AO3 has made the "Linked Universe" tags a synonym to "The Legend of Zelda & Related Fandoms," which makes me rather :/ I've gotten some good results from putting -"linked universe" and -linkeduniverse in the "search within results" field, though
I've seen them syn some very weird stuff into "All Media Types" tags a few times. Notably that "Pokemon - All Media Types" contains Sonichu for some ungodly reason.
I personally find the "& related fandoms" tags really annoying because ime they just turn into a dumping ground for associated works, and it becomes very hard to search for fics for specific works/adaptations inside that, because people will just tag their fics with the "& related fandoms" tag instead of the specific one in question (e.g. "fate/stay night (2004 visual novel)"). idk, maybe that's The Point but it still makes searching and filtering more of a hassle than it should be imo especially when you're like me and your highly specific interests end up comprising like 1% of fic that gets posted about most works
Like on one hand I get why there might be 'all media types' for certain franchises, there's probably a dozen versions of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and sometimes you want to write about the characters without tying it to a specific continuity, but it can also get super messy as we've all demonstrated. Also stuff like 'when does it stop being Iron Man fic and start being Avengers fic'?
It makes sense for shit like comics or Star Wars, I find. But things like Zelda it's hellish for because...I don't want fanfic for some other Zelda game. I want fanfic for this one very specific Zelda game. And I damn fuck sure don't want fanfic of a fancomic I literally don't read.
I'm not sure if this is a fiction complaint so much as a fiction author complaint, but oh boy finding bible scripture quotes that have nothing to do with the fic in the authors notes feels.... incredibly unsettling??? Yeah, I'm gonna go with unsettling.
Hey can anyone more familiar with A/B/O tropes tell me, is writing the omega character to be a wilting lily even if the character is usually aggressive or stoic in canon like... a thing? Because it seems to be a thing where they get all weepy and swooning ineffectually even if that's horribly ooc
That is exactly the reason that a friend of mine who always insisted they didn't care about topping order in their ships discovered that sometimes they do care about topping order, actually.
yeah, there are times when a/b/o is basically Uke/Seme 2: Electric Boogaloo with regards to characterization, and it’s annoying. i recall BNHA fandom was especially bad with this, although no fandom is safe
At least Omegaverse writers are explicit about That Being Their Kink and it's not treated as a serious bit of character analysis. (At the same time I'm kind of sad that it's practically impossible to discuss sexual preference as a characterisation tool without someone coming in with "UGH TOP AND BOTTOM AREN'T PERSONALITY TRAITS YOU DISGUSTING FUJOSHIT!" Like, maybe I just want my fave to have a complex about taking it up the ass? Have you considered that? Maybe that is a valid characterisation choice sometimes?)
yeah it ain't a personality trait but it can be a preference informed by personality traits, y'know? there's a difference between deciding someone is a bottom at all times and that therefore they have a particular set of traits and deciding that a character has a particular set of traits and that therefore they are a bottom by preference, i think. not that i enjoy omegas being default wilting lilies that much either, but then i don't generally go looking for fanfiction a/b/o much so when i do happen across it there isn't usually a mischaracterisation issue
