And I think it's worse that way, because if you're not good at Cyrillic you can't even tell what they're saying, never mind what it means. At least transliterate, god!
ive seen that with a lot of anime/manga fanfic with bad japanese and its like....please...............
Oh God do I feel this. There was this Homestuck/Battle Royale fusion fic that started really strong and had some really intriguing original concepts that weren't in the original Battle Royale (such as the Program being televised), but then it got increasingly more and more OOC, and had an ending that made the ending of Battle Royale itself look downright upbeat. Like, it was just unnecessary levels of misery. I unbookmarked it, but unfortunately there's no take-backsies on AO3 kudos. >:/ Honestly it's left me wanting to do my own HS/BR crossover with blackjack and hookers, but A. it'd be a huge undertaking, B. I'm already working on like a zillion fics, and C. I'm not convinced I could pull it off. But...ugh. Still pissed about that fic, ngl.
I never realized how weird it was that you can't take back kudos on AO3 before. :T Like, why bother programming a little pop up message that says 'you've already left kudos here!' when someone hits the button twice, and not a way to remove the kudo entirely? That's actually bizarre...
I cant stand transliterated russian. At all. I cant stand a lot of transliteration systems. Id rather we just bot use the language at all if were going to transliterate arabic. It looks shit and its hard for me to read. I like things in natuve scripts unless the language has a very set transliteration system like pinyin. I am weird outlier though.
Though russians i just hate because i thibk its ugly and doesnt fucking account for the slenders. But mostly its ugly.
Related to this dont google translate shit. I can mind grammar fuck ups because language learning is rough. Fic can be part of the process. If youre just going to stick shit in google though please just dont. Stop.
FFnet has favorites, but those essentially serve the same purpose as ao3 bookmarks, since your favorites show up in a section of your profile page. (You can indeed remove and add favorites, though I didn't think it was by chapter..?) And ffnet has reviews, which are equivalent to comments... but as far as I know it actually lacks an equivalent to ao3 kudos (that is, a button to show your support without actually commenting or favoriting/bookmarking.)
Ah, ok. I havent ffed for real in forever and ive been on my actual profile probably like three times total since i made it when i was thirteen
Yep, FF just has favs and comments. Which. I actually like a little better because back when everyone was on ff, i had much more of a rapport with my readers. At least on my fics, which were are pretty small, there's a small amount of kudos but only rarely any comments. I've stopped crossposting to ff entirely because people just don't leave comments anymore. /gripe
To my persnickety self, only "he said in Russian" or other such mention in the narration will do. In this case, it was two Russian people talking, I don't think it was necessary to point out they were speaking Russian at all. If they have to include written out Russian (they don't), I prefer Cyrillic because I can practice my neglected Russian, and the 'official' Russian transliteration system is terrible and ugly. But really, there is no reason to write dialogue in a different language from the narration. eeee, Megido-senpai noticed me I actually stopped leaving kudos on WIP for a while after I got burned. There's a modern dictatorship/resistance Les Mis AU where Grantaire is being asked by Shadowy Government Agents to spy on Les Amis, and he gets to know them, falls in love with Enjolras, etc. The third act misunderstanding is that someone on the inside is reporting on Les Amis, and Enjolras thinks it's Grantaire, but it isn't, how can he clear his name?! And in the end it turned out that the traitor is Feuilly, aka my favorite Ami, aka the person who in the book is most sincerely dedicated to the cause of justice and freedom. (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ I finished reading the last chapter, but I don't remember a single thing about it other than how mad I was. Also that fic sounds like such an awful letdown. Transliterated Russian is THE WORST. I was so mad when I started studying it and found out that Russian's actually pretty easy to read phonically, the people who transliterated it just decided it needed more consonants. And sometimes y represents й and sometimes ы? Because there's actually three-ish systems and every time I read a transliterated Russian word I have to put it back into Cyrillic so I can figure out what they mean. >:|
Say what you will, I have lurked from afar and I know the truth!!! ...i mean that in the least creepy way possible I'm too lazy/forgetful to log in and out on my laptop, alas. I do kudos more random bullshit signed out on my phone, though.
If a character's been enslaved most of his life and was once strung up outside to freeze or be eaten by birds, it's pretty damn unlikely he'd want to leap right into bondage on his second time, especially if the illustration shows him tied in the same pose he was almost executed. Tact, dear author.
Wow, who knew healing cock extended its powers so far and wide, to be able to quickly reclaim that in a sexual way. (That's what she said.)
Yeah, I could see building up to it rrreeeeaaaalllllyyyy slowly, maybe wait till after a few more times and then just wrap some rope loosely around his hands without tying it to anything and see how that goes. Jumping right in, no. Also they broke into someone else's empty home to do this on the assumption it was abandoned without actually checking and I'm still supposed to think they're the good guys.
