What are your roleplay gripes?

I did leave crit to that effect on their mod plurk, so that's probably why. Doesn't... make it any less of a gilsyr, though.

 

Also Salem had a different basic concept and was different in letting you PICK YOUR OWN MONSTER so, y'know. bitter ex Salem player here

 

Friends and I started making bingo cards at 2am last night because why not. I turned one into a general "Tumblr RP Things" bingo...

Tumblr rp is all about those right now and I kinda love it because it gives me an excuse to dick around on photoshop making neat borders and rewatch my fandoms ad nauseam, but there's a bit of an obsession about them and I can understand why a lot of my rp partners hate them. Friend of mine plays starscream and he's got like... 1000+. How do you manage that, dude. How.

Also, the tumblr rp obsession with purple prose. And not even normal purple prose - excessive description, big words used incorrectly just for the #Aesthetic, sentences with weirdwrong structure, formatting every other word, holy shit batman. I was always a bit of a writing snob, and tumblr rp is making that so much worse lmfao

 

Oh god, the fancy formatting thing in tumblr RP always killed me because every time I saw one of those posts it was just like WHAT IS THIS A ROLEPLAY FOR ANTS.

Man. I'll stick to free or the low-tier paid account for characters I play; I'm all about the function of versatile expressions so people who don't know the canon still have an idea of how the character looks. Plenty of admiration for people who manage that and a good, aesthetically coherent icon set... but I've got too little idea of what I'd wanna do with it to bother with anything more than cropping images.

I'm somehow really delighted to hear that it's a thing on Tumblr to deliberately use the wrong word even in roleplaying.

 

I'm not even sure it's deliberate in some cases; there just seems to be a lot of people who write out a perfectly usable sentence and then go diving into thesaurus.com to jazz it up... and aren't quite sure where to stop.

I actually kinda like some of the formatting, tbh - using sub text, for example. The increased line spacing in that actually helps me keep track of where I am in a paragraph. And I do appreciate the #Aesthetic thing, provided it doesn't go overboard - there's a couple of tumblr TF rpers who'll do things like fake two-column layouts. Which is the point at which I get exhausted just thinking about it lmfao

 

I know a dude who uses sub text and small text together. >:D

I dunno if it is a pet peeve exactly because when I saw it I'd just stay well away and let people (presumably) enjoy themselves with it but Wolf Speak.

Wolves don't have legs they have pillars. It's not tail, it's banner. Crown is an ok word to use for the entirety of a animals head right?

Thankfully nobody in my guild used it so I'd only see it when everyone was offline and I was desperate for my rp fix and would crawl out onto the neoboards.


Sometimes I think about making a new neo account to have a peek and see how much things have or haven't changed in the last decade.
