I also care about Eyeshield 21, but. this beautiful artistry of taking football to baffling extremes is a big favorite.
Spoiler My guess: they can leave the field only via the end zone, going into the ocean. At which point, they would need to circumvent to get back home. Would the others be legally allowed to pursue?
Spoiler The loophole is so much better than I could have guessed. Out of bounds, BUT. Now, I'm not an expert, but this feels like foreshadowing. I yearn for these two to try desperately punting balls to a teammate.
Spoiler: some sad 4am thoughts I just reread 17776, and I'm sitting here like. why are all the probes needing to shut down to charge fairly often? they've been in touch with earth for thousands of years. earth's aware of them. earth's got some humans who watch the probes' chats, or who chat with them on the phone, or such. earth's got nanotech for helping humans out. why... aren't any of the humans... making a ship. to go fly by and say hi, for the hell of it. maybe bring some better batteries while they're at it. like. the people with eternity before them, and making all manner of little inconveniences and objectives and challenges for the sake of keeping themselves going... none of them, not one of them, had the idea "hey let's help the probes be able to go longer without napping" ??? really makes me grateful for that fic of the group who went into space anyway. something itches at the apparent thoughtlessness of it. nine isn't a child, but is inexperienced and full of questions and wondering that the rest of them lack, and they occasionally sadly reflect on the lack of children but don't go eeeeeee with enthusiasm at the option to parent nine? doesn't compute.
I'm wondering about Juice. The probes are not immortal the way humans are, as I've understood it -- they gotta manage their energy levels or otherwise it's permanent lights out for them -- and Juice gets by with far less recharge than Nine and Ten, but he clearly also can't quite connect to humans because of just how different his cognition is to them. It's a big relatable neurodivergent mood, when the people who "get" you are gone and you're left to occupy yourself on the terms of people who... don't. And while the humans are clearly in good terms with the probes, there's still a disconnect there. Spoiler: :( it is p sad Oh, and IIRC someone said in 17776 that due to space being just that huge, and the probes moving away at such a high speed that there's no way to get to them, and certainly no way to get back to them. Humans did try space travel, and realised that you'd be signing yourself off for a life inside a space ship forever, endlessly, and you necessarily still wouldn't arrive where you wanna go. I think that would actually be an interesting premise, a human group that just decides that they wanna be endlessly together with nobody else and decide to take the longshot to help one of the probes out.
Spending more time as the only probe conscious may be part of Juice's intense shitpost moods, come to think of it... Spoiler Like, that was their reasoning for not exploring space and going to the other planets. But the probes are communicating! They can triangulate their location somehow, yeah? But at the end of the day, this is a story of how humans will take absurd rules like sports rules to even more absurd extremes, especially given opportunity and excuse.
Spoiler: chapter 4 the rulebook link juice provided does actually link to a readable (if abridged) document and it includes this gem: 14 – Cannons No cannons. No trebuchets. No onagers. Using any machine to propel a player or football through the air is strictly prohibited. WE HAVE BEEN OVER THIS.
Spoiler I guess the rule that kicks in here is number 11? I'm assuming the truck driver is a non-player.
Spoiler the probes just ROASTING the players made me cry laughing as did the surprise sex that popped up. jesus christ i genuinely wasnt expecting that at all
Okay, I take it back. This game is starting to reach Game 27 levels of nonsense. I am so excited to see where this goes.
