    Acey cool as an amphibian

I'd had a ten-second snippet of a song stuck in my head for literally thirteen years, and I hadn't had any luck finding it...but yesterday I went on r/tipofmytongue and posted a clip of me singing the tune and explaining what I remembered, and within UNDER TEN MINUTES someone managed to solve the mystery from my shitty recording and vague memories!! I'm so happy to finally know! :D

So I pregamed nanowrimo hard. To the tune of about 15k words in October, knowing that November is usually a shit month for me, and that with the election and shit, this nov was going to be a bear.

then I got the news that my larp was doing a sewing competition in November, and sewing is just about the only crafting thing I do in my larp. I had to compete, and I assumed it would take me all month, so on November 5th, when my big coupon was valid, I pretty much gave up on nanowrimo. I still poked at it in my down time when I wasn’t at work or sewing, but only in my notebook.

then sewing only took 10 days? Four of buying material and clarifying rules, six of actually putting the outfit together, and I entered my final piece into the competition yesterday.

I sat down today to digitize what I’ve been doing in my notebook and turn it into a second draft, and the first short piece is almost 5k words on its own. I have another two short pieces in this notebook, for this story.

Right now I’m sitting on 25k in my word document. If I were keeping up with my daily goals for nanowrimo I would need about 26.5k today. I’m only about a day behind.

I might be able to do both nanowrimo and a sewing competition this month!

I got some new pairs of fuzzy comfy socks to wear in bed, and when I first put them on last night I suddenly realised how much my previous bed socks had lost their fuzziness and comfiness. No wonder I was having so much trouble falling asleep in the evening, while in the daytime (once I got dressed in double-stacked day socks) I got very sleepy and wanted naps!

I have had a really good night's sleep and I feel so much better. Sometimes a little thing can have major effects!

I realized today that my Amtgard (larp) park has been running for 10 years. There was a study done in our game a few years ago, and the average Amtgard park survives for give or take 3 years. Very few make it past five years.

We've nearly shut down four times now.

Once, the (then) president of the club drove away half our members, then ran off with our records, ledger, and park funds. We got the lockbox back with some money in it, but without the ledger had no way of knowing if any was taken. Everything else, all our park paperwork and years of records, were just gone forever, and we had to start over from nothing.

The second time, a major player in the group cheated on his fiance, lied, convinced a bunch of people, and got us to lie for him. A quarter of the park quit out hatred for him. Six months later, the girl he definitely was just friends with revealed she was eight months pregnant with his kid, and another half of the park quit in disgust.

The third time our entire population either graduated or dropped out of college at the same time, leaving me and the monarch as the only players the following fall.

Then covid happened, after about a year of only having two people at park, twice a week, month after month, and we had to have a serious discussion about whether or not we were going to open back up again. We decided we would give it a shot, and as soon as the city allowed non-school-team sports to open up again we made the announcement that Amtgard was back in business.

First practice we had six people. Second practice we had 15. Old players came back, and a handful of new people have joined, almost none of them students (who trend as playing for two years before they graduate and move). We've been open again for about a month now and have been averaging about 12 people a day, twice a week, in the cold.

I'm so excited you guys. My little park has survived so much, and it looks like we're going to keep going for at least another couple years.

Two amazing things happened tonight! As maybe some of you know I'm not doing the super best at school right now, and i had a midterm that needed done shortly. I'm really struggling and I thought "this midterm is scary and fucking it up will decide my fate of passing or failing the whole course". So i buckled down, hoping for a high c, and just went fuck it and i got a goddam 94!

This turn of events means i have a real chance to get things done before my course time limit ends and im finally feeling kinda hopeful

Now, my mom's been my cheerleader since the beginning, and so to celebrate she gave me my Christmas present early and. Y'all. Y'ALL. Its a custom animal cross switch!!! Its so cute and a complete and utter surprise and. I may be crying a little :'D

Like im completely fucking blindsided rn
