    They disallow torture and gore?
That makes it seem less tolerant of art for adults.
Some of the greatest art I've seen have been scenes of the Inquisition and the resistance to torture of some martyrs. Which could not have been made if torture scenes were not allowed.

Heck, teh crucifixion of Jesus - one of the most popular things for artists to make - would be disallowed if "no torture".

Yeah, that sounds more like the TOS of a website for kids.

ETA: Not that I was spared such imagery in Sunday school :P

Back in the dark ages of the internet, Microsoft had a site similar to MySpace called "MSN Spaces". They enacted rules for content when people asked for "kid safe" spaces. Since they didn't offer a an "adult" version - well, has anyone seen MSN Spaces around?

Hmm that makes my arguments more tough. But still, couldn't someone make pretty much any porn also with the intent of making people unsettled? There are people who are unsettled by the existence of porn after all. If we're going to police artistic intent..

You can't make rules about art that doesn't include "community standards" - otherwise you have to let artists have free rein, and we have seen what that leads to - the statue of David with his dick hanging out, the ceiling of the Cistine Chapel that the popes had to have all teh dicks painted over, and then unpainted, and then repainted, and all them statues that had to have the dicks cut off and replaced with stone fig leaves (you ever try to have sex with a stone fig leaf? It doesn't work)
And then you got all them medieval painters we're going to have to overpaint cause they loved painting nude ladies
    some of whom were prepubescent

I think it's more a case of, the site is new, and they haven't considered it as a fandom space. Like, they say they're making it for ~community~ but I've gotten a very not-fandom vibe from it and I think they're ignorant of how fandom works.

mind, it may be a case where those things are in the tos to Cover Own Ass. I have an invite code coming off a random off twitter, I'll keep you guys appraised.

Except for women's gymnastics fandom. I found that and I'm following it now because I need something to follow.

i've made a soup.io (inksalt) and am gonna give it a try at least. if nothing else, it's exercising my ability to adapt to different social medias?
i'm lucky at least that i don't have too much on my tumblr i dead set do not want to lose and give up, it'd be vaguely inconvenient but not devastating. but it has now made me kinda want to... actually do something about my own writing, so. hm.

Okay imzy. [hacker voice] I'm in.

Sign-up thoughts: They are one of those sites that makes you pick communities during your sign up process from [interest list] -> [most popular communities], but that's not that bad. Their main landing/feed page, however, is BRIGHT WHITE. I do not like this, sam I am.

They do not seem to have a friends list feature, which makes Nai Sad Cat. Searching for people does pull them up pretty easily.

Making a community is pretty straightforward, I went ahead and made one for kintsugi (we're in the motivation and advice section). There are three types of communities: Public (exactly what you would expect), private (which functions via invitation only), and restricted (in which only mods can post). I'm already seeing a weak point there, I'd prefer to be able to have one that's mod-approved-but-anyone-can-apply membership like on LJ. (In keeping with our usual way of anyone-can-come-in, the kintsugi one is public, which means you can view it here.) They also have a community neighbors function, for showing up near related communities, which is cool.

If anyone would like to contribute banners and that sort of thing, it's requesting a 300x300 community icon, a 1700x400 desktop banner and a 100x600 mobile banner.

It does allow tagging, though the default within communities is one tag per post (set ours to five) and it seems to be capped at 50? plus 50 that are mod-only tags. Only mods can make tags, so uh, hail me if you want one, I guess.

Going through some of the less-active communities, it seems like there's not a lot getting responded to? The main format is vaguely reddit-like, with a main post and chained/staggered comment replies.

I have FIVE invite codes, first come first served, but it should open pretty progressively as the rest of you pop in. Further review later.
