Hi, this is the thread for talking about 3d printing. All the 3d printing.

 

I have two 3d printers, an sla printer and an fdm printer.

Nice! I made a few things at school using the filament printer over there. I've also been helping a friend out with his printing shenanigans because I'm good with Fusion and decent with Blender and know my way around 3D filetypes.

Which setter do you use for the code or do your printers have their own software?

 

Ooh, neato! I’ve only ever seen fdm projects, I think—how does the sla one work? It looks smoother to me…

 

I'm using ultimaker cura to slice my files.

@Acey the sla printer uses ultraviolet light to cure resin as the build plate moves upwards out of a vat of resin, the layers in that one are much smaller, almost too small to see, though you can see them some of the wider curves near the top of the fossil.

... is "slicing" the proper name for it in English.... Huh.

 

that's the only one i've heard used for it, it could just be slang though.

 

it makes sense, the printer does produce the piece in slices
