Once I was talking via voip to a friend who was watching her mom's bird. There was a lot going on in her life, and she was crying as she told me about it. She was rather annoyed because the bird kept making unhappy cheeps and she was not in a good place to try to figure out why. He had food and water, the temperature was fine, etc.

A few minutes later, she'd gotten most of the heavy stuff out. Things were much lighter. I was gently joking with her. Much to her consternation, the bird started singing. She was asking him why he was suddenly happy now. Something struck me, and I said, "You laughed."

She was a bit startled, but thought it made sense. He sees her often enough that she's definitely part of his flock. He trusts her to keep watch while he eats, and gets distressed if she leaves the room, unless she sings so he can hear that she's still nearby. (Talking works too, but it's easier to sing without feeling a bit silly than to talk in a constant stream for the benefit of an animal in the other room who doesn't understand the language.) He has every reason to care about how she's doing. He's a social animal, and she's part of his circle.

If you have ever walked into the middle of a flock of wild geese, you *know* that flocks of birds can be very in tune with each other's moods. Their group tension feels remarkably similar to the tension of a group of humans, imo. Chickadees, the tiny little Gorilla Bird pictured upthread, have a pretty darn sophisticated alarm call, which they use to organize group behavior.

So we can't prove that he chirped in distress because she cried and then sang because she laughed, but we have a suspicion.

I LOVE birthday games, and it looks like I'm Dark/Fire! Which is cool, but I'd rather be Ghost or Fairy tbh. OH WELL.

There seems to be exactly one that always fits my types in the given order and it is Delphox.

 

I had a Delphox in X! :D I remember him kicking a lot of ass.

Edit: I have two in my given order, but they're from the same evolutionary line, so idk if that really counts as two? Houndour and Houndoom.
