Wormwitch I wish the Affini were real :(

Wanted to try this cheese aldi's was supposed to have but the one near me doesn't have it, and I've been checking every couple of days. Might have to call other aldi's to ask if they have it.

What's everyone's favorite cheese? Tried havarti cheese for the first time and it's really good! I think it might replace mozzarella as my fav.

It is not possible to choose one cheese.

    • Cooking cheese: paneer
    • Aged hard cheese: manchego or iberico or pecorino
    • Sweet soft cheese: castello pineapple or Caboc
    • Sweet semi-hard cheese: Wensleydale with cranberry or white Stilton and apricot
    • Blue cheese: Cambozola or Blacksticks Blue
    • Melting cheese: probably raclette
    • Basic cheese: Crackler cheddar or aged Red Leicester

Got a work email from someone with a quote from one of my favorite poems in their signature today and I'm suffering because a) they got it wrong, b) the misquote doesn't scan, and c) this person is an English teacher.
    :hmph:

Looking up some Thai words for a thing and the Anglicised transliteration spelling is confusing me. Who decided a word pronounced "pa" should be spelled "phx"? I mean, if it's being translated into a whole new alphabet anyway, why apply that alphabet in ways that aren't how the letters are typically pronounced? (I'm blaming the English people involved. English is weird anyway.)

I'm awfully partial to grilled halloumi. For a soft cheese, there's a Quebecois called Grey Owl that's really, really good.

For general sandwich purposes I'm partial to a Gouda ideal ripening age 8-10 weeks (jong belegen)

For pizza I really like mozzarella, mostly the young stuff.

I also love feta for cooking and throwing through pastas and curries. There's currently Paneer in my fridge as well, that's new to me and I'm still looking for a recipe.

For snacking I'll try anything once, but I mostly like old hard cheeses. Blue cheese is a acquired taste in my opinion and I haven't quite acquired it yet :P
ETA: for snacking a cheese with extra bits through is great. I love Cumin cheese :D

Generally I like like goat cheese in...almost all its forms, hard or soft, but the only 'moldy' cheese allowed is camenbert or its relatives, blue cheese is the devil

From the hard cheeses, I do quite enjoy cheddar and a good Old Amsterdam, but i think my Always cheese is Feta

my favorite cheeses tend to be pungent or on the salty side and i prefer mostly non-cow-milk cheeses.
for easy eating and easy procurement it's definitely tilsiter which has a mild if salty flavor and overall very soft and airy mouthfeel for a medium hard cheese with just enough texture and hole size and ratio to really work with jams and other spreads on bread
for sauces it has to be feta or gorgonzola, cheese to go on pasta or eat with a nice little snack and appetizer board would be sheep's milk pecorino, ideally the very unaged kind that's more like a gouda in texture
but i'll be real i have not met a cheese i TRULY hate, tho there are some fancy mix-in-including cheeses where said mixin is not to my tastes, i had a lovely british cheese i adored except for the cranberries in it which were just too much like cranberry for example :P

tbh I love a good sharp cheddar. not really fancy, but it's the staple cheese of cheeses, and really delicious if you get a good one! apart from that though, I love all kinds of goat cheese, and I really want to learn to cook with paneer because that stuff is absolutely god tier. oh, and manchego with marcona almonds and quince paste is The fancy time snack.

cheese is one of those things where there are so many options it gets overwhelming and so I tend to stick to a handful of things I know I like. my mom gets a lot of different kinds around holidays, though, so I always look forward to that for opportunities to expand my cheese horizons.

Possibly the best creative decision I've made was titling a document "self indulgent nonsense" and writing whatever fluffy stuff I think of.

    It's 30 pages and growing.

Could swear we had an "it was real, I didn't imagine this" thread but I can't seem to find it, so I'm putting this here. I remember watching this movie when I was a kid and couldn't remember what it was called. Googled some of the movies plot points and found it! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mio_in_the_Land_of_Faraway

The scene where the kid gets turned into a bird scared the shit out of me when I watched it.

Just got home from a Ren faire and got some of this essential oil mix (sandalwood, lotus blossom, and a bit of cinnamon) in my diffuser! It's a new one I'm trying called Persephone, and it's fantastic. Here's the online shop for it and iirc they ship internationally! Could've misunderstood though:

I've never actually used the online shop as it's kinda hard to navigate but every year I make absolutely sure to visit her booth! Her incense sticks are also fantastic, my favorites are Rain (lily of the valley and wisteria) and Passion (rose, gardenia, lemon, and jasmine. It's... a lot, but good)

Went to a board game cafe for a belated birthday celebration. It was a blast getting to spend time actually seeing people and it was especially nice because it was people from three different friend groups who came and they all got along great.
